Race 4: Lonesome Soul
The Greg Wright-trained filly was third-up on Saturday and ran her usual honest race when she found the podium for the fifth time when finishing third in the Three-Year-Old Hcp over 1400m.
Emily Lang settled her mid-field on the fence before easing out on the turn and after spotting the leaders five lengths, she hit the line strongly to grab the minor prize, doing her best work over the final 100m of the race.
The filly is as honest as the day is long and she is not far away from her next win.
Race 6: Warby
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper resumed after 18 weeks off the scene and impressed when a fast finishing third in the BM85 event over 1200m.
Ryan Maloney settled him back near the tail with just two behind him before looking for galloping room in the run home and eventually finding it, hit the line strongly on fresh legs, finishing just 2.5 lengths behind the in-form (race-favourite) Give Giggles (our Best Bet for the meeting).
The six-year-old is already a three-time winner when second-up so it might pay to stick with her for a couple more yet.
Race 7: Ducasse
The visiting Sydney-based galloper was fresh off a 15-week break and caught the eye with a fine effort, finishing fourth in the Open Hcp over 1400m.
Carrying topweight of 60kgs and conceding 3kgs and more to the rest of them, Martin Harley settled him last of the eight runners to the turn before easing him out wide for a final effort.
Tightened for room, Harley then steered back inside where he finally saw daylight and hit the line strongly, finishing less than a length from the winner.
He will strip fitter and improve from that effort and should be kept safe for now.
