Warrnambool racing takes place on Thursday, September 3, with a competitive country meeting set down for Warrnambool.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 1 No.7- All Moonlite

All Moonlite can break through in the opener. The Symon Wilde-trained galloper has had the two career starts and had a couple of excuses when resuming with a 4th over the 1400m at the Bool on August 20. The six-year-old was two years off the scene heading into that and had to be steadied at the 600m before being held up until the 400m and closing off well. She will no doubt benefit from that run and the step up to the 1700m should suit the daughter of Alpine Eagle.

Race 4 No.1- Captain Redbeard

I didn't mind the performance of Captain Redbeard when resuming on Soft ground over the 1200m at Seymour on August 7 and the Ciaron Maher-trained galloper can go a couple of spots better in this race after placing 3rd. He drew awkwardly at Seymour before settling worse than midfield off a slow tempo, then worked into the race with the fastest 400m to 200m split before just peaking late behind Misty Whimper. The son of Per Incanto went three lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the second best figure that any runner in this field has produced, while he should have scope for improvement. From barrier 2, he is likely to save ground with cover and if the gaps open up late he should be hard to hold out late in the piece.

Race 5 No.7- Justibella

Justibella can just about make it back-to-back wins when she steps out in Race 5. The four-year-old finally broke her maiden at her most recent start, with that coming on the Ballarat Synthetic over the 1400m on August 9 ahead of Don’t Say Mikki, with those two putting two lengths on the rest of the field. She went two lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is eight lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner in this race. The switch back to turf shouldn’t be an issue, as she headed into the Synthetic meeting with promising form on Heavy tracks after placing at both Warrnambool and Ballarat. This does not look to be a huge step up, and she should land just behind the leading pair off what looks a soft tempo before proving hard to hold out at the business end.
