Race 3: No.1 Funky Cold Medina
The Gary Nielsen-trained galloper has done everything but win in six career starts to date but gets a golden opportunity here to break through in this event.
Last start, the Press Statement gelding landed his third runner-up prize when he beat all but one home in a 1000m Maiden Hcp at Ballina.
On a Heavy 10 that day, he settled second outside the leader to the turn, then soon after found the front but yet again, came across one better on the day, leaving him with the silver medal for the race.
On a much drier track here, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling with apprentice Grace Palmer as the new pilot and after her 3kg claim, the five-year-old carries 2.5kgs less than last start.
After six starts this preparation, he will certainly be race-fit and with a change of luck, can get the job done in this contest.
Race 6: No.4 Humphree Bear
Three starts into this campaign, the Shane Everson-trained galloper should now be ready to produce his best in this event.
Last start, the Calyx gelding made it back-to-back podium finishes when he claimed third prize in a BM66 Hcp over 1200m at Grafton.
Adin Thompson settled him mid-field to the turn before securing a gap and initially took the lead but found the step-up to the 1200m a bit much and was out-sprinted to the line, beaten a length on the post.
Yet to finish top-three beyond 1100m, the stable drop him back to 1010m here where he carries less weight and from the ideal draw in gate one, maps to do no early work as he settles near mid-field on the fence.
Danny Peisley is the new pilot and with a little luck in running here, the right gap at the right time can see him figure in the finish of this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Herald Angel
Matt Dunn saddles-up Herald Angel here who is in great touch after four runs this preparation and on current form will take a power of beating in this event.
Last start, the All Too Hard mare totally destroyed her rivals in a BM58 Hcp over 1590m at Ballina.
On a Heavy 10 that day, Andrew Mallyon settled her right behind the leader to the turn, then coming off heels, took control inside the final 300m and then left the rest to fight over the minors as she raced away to score by more than six lengths over the line.
Metting similar company here, she draws gate seven and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and has Liberty Smyth behind the wheel for the first time.
After the claim, she carries just 1kg more than that last big win and on a drier track, looks the testing material in this contest.
