Race 1: No.6 Mr Tadashi
The Doug Gorrel-trained galloper is high-flying of late and looks ideally placed here to bring up the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the Maurice gelding came off a win in BM58 company when he franked that effort by going back-to-back and taking out a BM66, here over 2000m.
On a Heavy 10 that day, Jeff Penza settled him second, parked outside the leader to the turn, then taking over soon after he kept going and fended off the challenges to go on and score by more than two lengths on the line.
Meeting similar company here, he carries 2.5kgs more today and jumping from gate seven, he maps to cross and settle near the speed again with Penza retaining the ride.
Unbeaten at the track and trip and a two-time winner in heavy going, he looks the testing material again in this contest.
Race 5: No.8 Vinolass
The Canberra-based galloper has shown improvement recently and with a big drop in weight today, she can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Supido mare came off a disappointing effort (on a dry track) when she beat all but one home in a BM66, here over 1000m.
On a Heavy 9 that day, she relished the conditions but was trapped wide from the outset, settling three and four deep to the corner, then took the turn via the cape and finished off down the centre of the track, beaten by one better on the day.
Stepping-up in grade today, she faces BM82 opposition but after the claim by Jessica Brookes, drops 6kgs for this assignment.
From gate ten, she maps to push forward and settle just behind the speed in a field reduced to seven after early scratchings and in the conditions today and already a winner at the track and trip, the six-year-old lines-up here as a real threat in this contest.
Race 6: No.8 Look Here
The Danielle Seib-trained galloper is in career-best form this preparation and ticks all the boxes that suggest she can take out this event today.
Last start, the Zoustar filly came off her maiden win (on this track) when she did well to beat all but one home in a Class 1/Maiden, here over the 1600m trip.
From the outside gate (11), Pierre Boudvillain pushed her forward settling outside the leader in the Heavy 10 conditions before gaining the upper hand soon after straightening was off for the prize but was run down late by a swooper and had to settle for second prize on the day.
Meeting a similar field today, she jumps from gate seven and maps to settle near the speed with Boudvillain in the irons again.
At her peak after five runs back, she has conditions to suit and already a track and distance winner, the three-year-old should prove hard to beat in this contest.
Race 8: No.10 Iroquai
Michael Travers saddles-up Iroquai here who has found her mojo this campaign and looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Shamus Award mare finally broke through and landed her first win when she took out a Maiden Hcp over 1175m at Albury.
Blaike McDougall settled her last, eight lengths off the speed to the turn, then sticking to the onside, weaved through traffic and finally securing clean air along the fence, finished too strong for them, grabbing the gold medal on the line.
Stepping-up to Class 1 company today, she has a new rider aboard with Jean Van Overmeire being legged aboard for this assignment and from barrier eight, she maps to settle back in the field with conditions forecast to be wet again.
In winning form now and with conditions to suit, the four-year-old looks the one to beat in this contest.
