The Group 1 Toorak Handicap is run over 1600m at Caulfield racecourse under handicap conditions and we have preview and predictions for the hot betting heat.

First run in 1886 the race has been won by some champion horses including Galilee (1966) Tobin Bronze (1967) and more recently, More Joyous (2010).

We’ve taken a look at every single runner in this year’s edition and our best bets can be found below. Get the best odds on the race at PuntNow.

1. My Oberon (15)

Is yet to win from nine attempts at Group 1 level but was narrowly denied in the Doncaster earlier in the year.

Is a duel acceptor in Sydney and considering the wide barrier, I’d suggest he will go there instead.

2. The Inevitable (8)

Knows how to win having been first past the post in 16 of his 32 career starts, the majority of which have been in Tasmania.

Changed trainers from Scott Brunton to Tegan Keys following a third in the All-Star Mile and has impressed in his first two starts this spring.

Is more than capable at this level and drawn well.

3. Amelia’s Jewel (12)

The boom filly from Western Australia finally graced the east coast with her presence and is living up to the hype with two wins from two starts this spring.

She has been kept against her own sex so far but the way in which she has won has been the most impressive thing.

If she is within striking distance at the top of the straight, she’ll be tough to beat.

4. Pinstriped (11)

Booked his spot in the 2023 Cox Plate with a win in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes last time out at The Valley.

Has been kept fresh for this race and is racing well enough to be competitive.

5. Pounding (9)

Seems to be a horse that gets better the deeper he gets into his prep and this will be his fourth run this campaign.

We saw in the Australian Cup that he is capable at the top level and he’s never beaten far. Prefer others.

6. Antino (17)

A very progressive type out of the Tony Gollan stable who is putting together an impressive racing resume.

The lightly raced five-year-old gelding has now won nine of his 11 career starts including the Group 3 Sandown Stakes last time out.

Drops 3.5kg for that win but will have a tricky barrier to contend with.

7. Attrition (10)

Was beaten two lengths in the P.B Lawrence first up behind Mr Brightside and then the barest of margins in the Feehan behind Pinstriped.

Was well beaten in the Underwood last start which was concerning but he deserves a mulligan.

He’s a better horse than that effort suggests and he gets in well at the weights.

8. Bankers Choice (16)

Seven attempts at the highest level without placing and the wide barrier are big concerns. Prefer others.

9. Corner Pocket (4)

Only a lightly raced seven-year-old gelding who has been consistent throughout his career.

Has placed in all but two of his 20 career starts but this is his first go at Group 1 level.

10. Pride Of Jenni (5)

Not the most consistent mare but when she puts it all together, she’s more than capable of a rating high enough to be competitive in a race of this quality.

Was beaten a nose in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic during the autumn and gave Amelia’s Jewel something to chase at The Valley last start.

She meets that mare 4.5kgs better at the weights in this race and if she produces a similar rating, she can give this a shake.

11. Ironclad (1)

First two runs this prep were very ordinary and while he is a last start winner, it was the Listed Balaklava Cup.

Is capable but I wouldn’t trust at the moment.

12. Savannah Cloud (14)

The Phillip Stokes trained horse gets his first go at Group 1 level at start 28.

Would need to improve dramatically to be any threat.

13. See You In Heaven (13)

Comes out of the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes won by Amelia’s Jewel and she’d need to find a fair few lengths to turn the tables.

14. Here To Shock (3)

Closed out his last campaign by winning three in a row including one at Listed level.
Was only beaten 0.4 lengths behind Antino last start and they meet at the same weight scale.
Represents good value based on that.

15. Amenable (6)

Beaten as the short-priced favourite at Listed level at Caulfield last time out and find the line really well.
She drops 5kg from that effort and is one that is capable of running a cheeky race at a big price from the good draw.

16. Charterhouse (2)

A Maher and Eustace trained import having his first campaign in Australia.

Placed in his first two starts this prep but at a much lower grade.

Might be a bit much at this stage despite the light weight.

17. Beltoro

The 2023 Albury Cup winner but looks out of his depth in a race of this quality.
