Siragusa can go one spot better than his first-up effort, which saw him finish runner-up at Kensington on September 9. The four-year-old settled handy that day but was held up at a crucial stage in the home straight before missing out by a couple of lengths behind Komodo Dragon. The third horse home, Unstoppabull, has since come out and scored in Benchmark 72 company. Siragusa was a three-length winner when second-up last campaign and looks to have returned from a spell in good order. The son of I Am Invincible gets the run of the race from barrier two, where he can sit behind the leader before getting his chance in the straight. The step up to 1400m looks ideal and puts him right in his wheelhouse.

Best value comes up in the final race of the day, where West Of Dalby can be a bit of a surprise packet at odds. The six-year-old has been getting back in a number of her recent runs in races that have lacked early speed. She drew barrier 14 at Canterbury last time and worked into the race with the fastest splits from the 800m to the 200m before the lack of tempo counted against her, eventually finishing fifth behind Unstoppable. Her form prior to that was solid in relation to this company, including a third at Randwick in Benchmark 78 company behind Ernaux. The daughter of Santos hasn't won in almost three years but has placed in four of her past eight and hasn't been beaten by big margins. The tempo looks rock-solid this time around, with a number of these likely to go forward, which should set things up nicely for her. Look for her to be flying home late in the piece.
