Race 2: No.3 Creative Righteous
The Peter Cheers-trained galloper is high flying after three starts back and looks on a seven-day back-up here, looks set for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Rubick gelding chalked-up win number two when he took out a Class 1 at set weights over 1600m at Tuncurry.
Grant Buckley settled him mid-field to the turn before tracking wide and soon after took control, then ran away from them to score by 2.5 lengths on the line.
Facing an easier task here against a BM58 line-up, he draws gate five and maps to settle better than mid-field with Buckley in the saddle again.
Already a winner in rain affected going, conditions are ideal for him today where he looks a genuine chance of taking the glory again in this contest.
Race 5: No.6 Exorbitant Miss
The Jeremy Gask-trained galloper is in great touch this time in and ticks all the boxes that suggest she can claim victory in this event.
Last start, the Xtravagant mare came off a win at Muswellbrook when she franked that effort by taking out a BM58, here over 2000m.
Drawn wide in gate nine, she settled near last early before working into the race before the turn, then in the run home she finished too strong for them and after finding the front, went on to score by more than a length on the line.
Drawn out in gate 10 today, she maps to settle back in the field with Rory Hutchings retaining the ride for this assignment.
In winning form and down in weight today, the mare looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 6: No.5 Josephine
Todd Howlett saddles-up Josephine here who has had mixed success this preparation but looks well placed here to make her track debut a winning one in this event.
Last start, the Headwater mare bounced back from a failed mission in the city when she finished third in a BM58 over 1400m at Gunnedah.
Aaron Bullock had her settled perfectly in the box seat to the turn then as the leaders drifted out, she secured clear passage on the inside and soon after took the lead but found a couple stronger over the final 50m, having to settle for the minor prize in the race.
Dropping back to the 1250m today, she draws gate seven and maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with Jean Van Overmeire as the new pilot.
Both career wins have come on wet tracks so conditions are ideal for her today and at her peak now, she looks a major player in this contest.
