Seymour Racing Tips for August 7 – Three at value for Seymour on Friday, ranging from $8 to $21

Seymour racing takes place on Friday, August 7, with a competitive country meeting set down for Seymour.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 2 No.5- Patchson


It was a respectable debut by Patchson in a harder Maiden than this on July 22 at Sandown and the locally trained galloper can be an improver at his second career start. When lining up at Sandown, he did a few things wrong when racing keenly then wobbling about a couple of times in the straight but had enough in the tank to keep coming for 4th behind French Accord, going 1.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced so far. He will benefit from that run and the stable go for a few gear changes, while he draws to land in the running line from barrier 7. 

Race 7 No.2- Icaro


Icaro is a sneaky chance in Race 7. The Michael Kent-trained galloper had excuses when resuming over the 1400m at Cranbourne when caught wide no cover before tiring late into 6th then took on BenchMark 70 last time at Sandown over the 1800m and was well beaten but did close off reasonably well in the second half of the race. He was a winner over 1732m at the end of his last prep but has produced some solid figures over the 1600m distance range, improving 12 lengths at this stage of his debut prep when runner-up at Caulfield over the distance before a couple of unlucky runs when placing before his Sale win. He is likely to get back from the barrier but tempo looks suitable here with a few of these to go forward. With any luck, he can run over the top of them late. 

Race 8 No.10- Sky Watcher


Sky Watcher is an each-way player in the final race of the day at Seymour. The four-year-old comes into this third up and battled in a Saturday race when resuming at Caulfield over the 1200m before showing improvement with a 4th at Flemington last time over the 1400m. The Jack Laing-trained galloper led at a solid tempo and ran out of gas during the long straight but did do well to only go down by less than two lengths, going more than eight lengths faster than standard benchmark. Victory Tune is the only other contender with anything in the same ballpark and is also one to perhaps throw into quaddies in this. Sky Watcher draws wide but has scope to push up and came into her own fourth up last time with a couple of consecutive wins. She is value at the double figures.
