Caulfield Racing Tips for August 8 – Stylish to push odds on favourite in Race 6

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of the key meetings from around Australia, complementing the Randwick meeting, which sees the big names stepping out in the Missile Stakes.

Commit can go close in the opener. The promising galloper from the Price/Kent Jnr stable has had the three career starts and resumed with a win at Sale ahead of Dustee, who then went on to win his next start. Commit has since stepped out at Sandown and was slow to begin then posted wide before running on for 3rd. He just needs to jump better here and is likely to settle handy, which is usually the place to be at the Caulfield Heath over the shorter trips. At Sandown, the son of Profiteer went a very healthy 12 lengths faster than standard benchmark and it is worth noting that the 4th placegetter has since taken out a $100,000 Maiden in Sydney. 

Stylish can just about pinch Race 6. The six-year-old has been in career best form this time in with a win and couple of runner-up podiums in her three runs, which have all been at Flemington. She has copped wide draws at her past two and found a nice spot in the run two starts ago before getting a bit further back than normal last time when unable to reel in Duchess Zou, who had enjoyed the run of the race. She draws just inside the odds on favourite, Custom, and that might play to her advantage and she should be on top of her game coming into this fourth up and after a recent jumpout win ahead of Arkansaw Kid. 

First Chorus has come up as favourite in the market for the Travis Harrison Cup and the Lindsey Smith-trained galloper can justify the tag. The five-year-old comes in with two straight wins under the belt and is compiling an impressive record of seven wins from 15. She won well on the course proper at Caulfield back in May then had some excuses in two races before her two recent wins. Last time out she settled handy in this grade with just 51.5kg on her back and kicked clear over the 1600m at Caulfield to win by more than two lengths. She rises 2kg but is flying and draws to land in the first few pairs with cover. Luke Cartwright sticks on board.
