Race 4: No.10 Just Response
The Nathan Doyle-trained galloper is unbeaten tis time in and looks the testing material in this event.
Last start, the Justify gelding came off a first-up win at Gosford when he franked that effort by going back-to-back and taking out a BM68 Hcp over 1250m at Newcastle.
Sent out a white-hot $1.30 elect, he led from barrier to box with Mitchell Bell in the saddle.
Facing BM72 company here, he draws nicely in gate five and maps to settle near the speed again and after steering him to victory twice previously, Ash Morgan returns for the ride.
Placed at the track at his only visit to date, a trouble-free run here should see him there at the finish in this contest.
Race 6: No.12 Hay Street
Team Archibald saddle-up Hay Street here who is in career-best form this preparation and coming off four-straight city class appearances, looks set to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the well-bred Capitalist gelding was shooting for the hat-trick when he came short, finishing third in a BM78 Hcp over 1000m at Randwick.
Braith Nock had him settled second behind the leader to the turn, then in the run home was unsuited by the fast pace and unable to bridge the gap, took home the minor prize in the race.
Facing similar company here at provincial level, he draws gate nine in the big field and maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with Nock steering the ship again.
The three-year-old has found the podium in his past five starts and while the iron is hot, he looks set to strike another blow in this contest.
Race 10: No.13 Captain Furai
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is in top-shelf form this campaign and with an ounce of luck at the gates, can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Toronado gelding made it back-it-back wins when he took out a BM100 Hcp over 1400m at Randwick with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
Sitting just behind the speed, one off the fence, he crossed heels on straightening and finished best to grab the gold medal in a tight finish.
Jumping from gate 10 here, he maps to cross and settle in the first half-dozen with McEvoy retaining the ride for this assignment.
Staring the hat-trick in the face here, a trouble-free run can see the five-year-old challenging for the big prize and is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
