Race 4: No.4 Cryoseisms
The Ricky Vale-trained galloper is in outstanding form this time in and looks the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the Frosted gelding was shooting for the hat-trick when he beat all but one home in a BM65 Hcp, here over 1100m.
Aidan Holt settled him mid-field to the turn, then came off heels and in the run home, battled it out with race favourite, Over Draft, eventually getting the better of him but was then grabbed by a swooper (King’s Duty) right on the post, leaving him with the silver medal in the race.
Meeting similar company here, he draws well in gate three and maps to settle mid-field again with Raul Silvera Olivera returning for the ride after steering him to victory two starts back at Mackay.
Already a track and distance winner here and in career-best form of late, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 6: No.2 Bitter Spirit
The Tom Smith-trained galloper resumes off a six-month break today and after three minor placings from his four starts at the track, he will be keen to end the drought and bring-up his first win at Rockhampton.
Last start, the well-bred Spirit of Boom gelding beat all but one home in a Class 3 Plate over 1560m at Mackay.
Sean Cormack settled him back in the field before working into the race approaching the turn, then coming down the centre of the track, he hit the lead inside the final 100m, but was grabbed again by the horse he just passed, beaten half a length on the line.
Facing his own age group here, he draws well in gate four and maps to take a sit back in the field with Ash Taylor returning for the ride, having steered the gelding to both his career wins to date.
Placed twice from two previous first-up appearances and on home soil again, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Heartoni
Stuart Kendrick saddles-up Heartoni here who boasts a very strong record on the Callaghan Park track and fitter for recent racing, looks a serious contender in this event.
Last start, the Nicconi gelding found the podium for the third time this campaign when he finished third in a BM78 Hcp over 1000m in city-class company at Eagle Farm.
Ben Osmond settled him outside the leader to the turn, then in the run home, gave it everything he had but in the three-horse battle down the straight, came up half a length short in the end, taking home the minor money for the race.
Returning to country class opposition today, he draws ideally in gate two and maps to be box-seating on settling with apprentice Kayla Johnston as the new pilot and after her claim, the five-year-old carries the same weight that he did in the metro class event.
With a clear run to the line here, the Sunshine Coast-based galloper should give a bold sight in this contest.
