Race 5: No.4 Live To Rise
The Sally Torrens-trained galloper is second-up here and down in grade, looks a major player for the big prize in this event.
Last start, the Saxon Warrior mare resumed after more than eight months off the scene and impressed when she beat all but one home in the Gunnedah Lightning Hcp over 1000m.
Drawn the outside gate (13), the mare settled mid-field but wide to the turn before tracking even wider, then in the wet conditions, ran home strongly to claim second prize, just one bound short of victory in the race.
Kody Nestor has ridden the mare to victory twice previously and returns here to steer the ship again where she is ideally drawn in gate two and maps to do no early work, settling mid-field on the fence.
Unbeaten in two previous second-up appearances, the four-year-old should find this Class 3 contest a little easier and fitter for that first-up run, looks in the mix today.
Race 6: No.2 Smart Buy
The Rod Northam-trained galloper is three starts into this campaign and down sharply in grade here, looks set to produce her best in this event.
Last start, the Written By mare took on Class 2 company for the third time again failed finish in the money over 1400m at Scone.
Reece Jones settled her back in the field and on a Heavy 8 that day, failed to make up the ground, beaten more than nine lengths over the line.
Dropping back to BM58 competition here, she draws gate nine and maps to settle in the back half of the field with apprentice Anna Weatherlake as the new pilot.
After the claim, she carries just 1.5kgs more than last start and at her peak here, the four-year-old looks a serious threat in this contest.
Race 7: No.4 Hulu
Cameron Crockett saddles-up Hulu here who is in great touch of late and ticks the right boxes that suggest she can figure in this event.
Last start, the Showtime mare found the podium for the third time in her past four starts when she claimed victory in a BM82 over 1300m at Scone.
On a Heavy 8, she drew the outside gate (9) and settled back in the field trapped wide to the turn before straightening as the widest runner and in the run home, finished best to grab victory on the line.
Aaron Bullock steered the ship that day and has the job again for this assignment.
A known track specialist, the mare boasts four wins from her seven starts here and in winning form at the moment, looks set to play a major role in the outcome of this contest.
