Race 1: No.3 Nothing Special
The Rob Potter-trained galloper is third-up today and should now be ready to show his best in this event.
Last start, the Dissident gelding was second-up when recorded his third-straight minor placing by finishing third in a Maiden Hcp over 1180m at Gundagai.
On a Heavy 10 that day, Claire Ramsbotham settled him mid-field to the turn, then on straightening, he appeared to have nothing left before finding another effort over the final 150m where he hit the line hard and arrived in time to grab the minor prize in the race.
Ideally drawn in gate two here, he maps to be box-seating on settling with Ramsbotham steering the ship again.
The step-up to the 1435m trip here looks ideal based on his closing efforts last start and with a clear run to the line, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 4: No.8 Restless Spirit
The Canberra-based galloper is third-up here and has done enough in his first two runs back to suggest he will prove hard to beat in this event.
Last start, the Portland Sky gelding came off a first-up maiden win at Forbes when he stepped-up in grade and finished fourth in a Class 1 Hcp over 1400m at Goulburn.
Alysha Collett settled him back in the field where he overraced to the turn, then scouting wide he spotted them too much start but still finished off nicely to beat all but the placegetters to the line.
Facing similar company here, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to settle in the back-half of the field with Dale Cole as the new pilot for this assignment.
After the claim, he carries 2kgs less than that last start and fitter for those two runs back, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 5: No.2 Nights Inferno
The Teresa Bateup-trained galloper resumes after 35 weeks in the paddock and ticks enough here to suggest he can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Shooting to Win gelding ended his last campaign by finishing fourth in a Class 3 Hcp over 1200m at Nowra.
With Amy McLucas aboard, he led them on settling and set a solid pace to the turn, then in the run home, held his own to the 150m mark but ran out of gas and faded to finish just behind the placegetters, beaten 1.5 lengths on the line. That ended a very long campaign for him and he was in need of a break.
Finishing third in a recent trial, he draws well in gate four and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with new pilot Dale Cole in the saddle for this assignment.
Dropping sharply in grade here, he takes on BM58 company where he is already a winner in this grade and already a winner when first-up as well, the five-year-old looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.
