Race 3: No.3 Jemoma Alpilage
The Kevin Kemp-trained galloper has been racing in strong company recently but should find this challenge a little easier in today’s event.
Last start, the Lean Mean Machine mare wasn’t disgraced when finishing fourth in a Class 4 Hcp over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast.
Taylor Marshall settled her last of the six runners to the turn and although an unlikely winner on straightening, still hit the line well, doing her best work over the final 100m, beaten just two lengths on the post.
The step-up to the 2170m trip looks ideal for the mare at this stage of her preparation as she lines-up in BM70 company and drawn the fence, maps to settle mid-field with cover.
Her only start here ended in a win in Class 1 company and with Marshall retaining the ride, the five-year-old looks a better than even chance of success in this contest.
Race 6: No.12 Red Samovar
David Vandyke saddles-up Red Samovar here who is third-up and looks set for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Russian Revolution mare finally broke through for her first win when she clobbered her opposition in a Maiden Plate over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast.
Ben Thompson settled her second, outside the leader and matched strides to the turn before taking over soon after and from there, raced away to score by 2.5 lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to Class 1 competition here, she draws well in gate four and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Thompson steering the ship again.
In winning form now and fitter for those two runs back, the four-year-old should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Precise Star
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is unbeaten in two starts this time in and although up in grade today, should still take a ton of beating in this event.
Last start, the Zoustar gelding came off his first-up Maiden win at the Sunshine Coast when he franked that effort by going back-to-back in a BM58 over 1400m at the Gold Coast.
From the outside gate (12), Georgina Cartwright pushed him forward and crossed to lead on settling before slowing them up to the turn, then in the run home, found another gear and exploded away to go on and cross the line four lengths clear in the end.
Facing Class 2 opposition here, he draws gate seven and maps to setter better than mid-field and boasting a 26% success rate with the stable, apprentice Bella Youngberry has the reins today for the first time.
Winning form is good form and with a trouble-free run here, the four-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.
