Race 3: No.1 Columbus
The Les Bridge-trained galloper is third-up here and looks set to bounce back in this event.
Last start, the Dundeel gelding came off an impressive first-up win when he stepped-up in grade and finished unplaced in a BM72 over 1500m at Rosehill.
James McDonald (J. Mac) settled him second to the turn, but when asked for a further effort, remained one-paced to the line, finishing fifth, beaten two lengths on the line.
After the race, J.Mac recommended blinkers for the gelding’s next start, to which the stable have responded and fitted them for this event.
From barrier eight, he maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with J.Mac in the saddle again.
Already a winner when third-up, a trouble-free run can see him return to the winner’s circle in this contest.
Race 6: No.4 Valilee
Jake Hull saddles-up Valilee here who is first-up but looks ready to fire on fresh legs in this event.
Last start, the Adelaide gelding was second-up and went one better when he clobbered his rivals in a BM64 over 1000m at Gosford.
Lumping 61.5 kgs, he drew wide in barrier nine (of 11) where Anna Roper took him straight to the lead and from there was never headed as he went on to win by more than a length on the line.
He resumes off an eight-month absence here but is coming off back-to-back trial wins and from gave five, maps to settle on the speed again with Mitchell Bell returning for the ride after steering him to victory twice previously.
Already a winner when first-up, he drops in weight for this BM72 challenge and if left alone to dictate terms, he should prove hard to run down in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Couples Retreat
The Team Archibald-trained galloper has been thereabouts in recent racing and down in grade today, looks a serious threat to victory in this event.
Last start, the Super Seth mare faced her third-straight BM78 challenge and did well to finish third in the 1100m event at Rosehill.
Alysha Collett settled her mid-field to the turn, then sticking to the fence, gained a split and ran home strongly to grab the minor prize beaten just over a length on the line.
Dropping back to BM72 company here, she scores the gun-run from gate one in the 17-strong field and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Mollie Fitzgerald back for the ride after steering the mare to victory three times previously.
After the claim, she carries just 1kg more than last start and already placed twice at the track from two previous starts, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
