Illawarra Grange racing takes place on Thursday, September 17 with a 7-race program set down for the Illawarra Grange racetrack.

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Illawarra Grange racetrack.

Race 1: No.4  Ancestral

Chris Waller saddles-up Ancestral here who is two starts into her racing career and looks ready to break through in this event.

Last start, the King's Legacy mare showed plenty of improvement off her debut run when she beat all but one home in a set weights Maiden over 1400m at Hawkesbury.

Keagan Latham settled her near mid-field to the turn before she tracked wide to chase the tearaway leader but in the run home, the lead was far too big to run down, leaving her with second prize on the day.

From gate nine, the mare maps to settle near mid-field with Chad Schofield taking over as the new pilot for this assignment.

Fitter and more experienced now, the four-year-old can go one better in this contest.

Race 4: No.9  The Pacific

The Geoff Allendorf-trained galloper is second-up here and ticks enough boxes to suggest he is a contender for victory in this event.

Last start, the Exceed And Excel gelding resumed off a 16-week spell and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth in a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m at Wyong.

From gate nine, Winona Costin settled him last of the 11 runners to the turn before tracking wide and spotting them a huge lead, ran home gamely and did well to finish a tick over two lengths from the winner in the end.

With Costin in the saddle again, he gets the gun-run from gate one here and maps to do little or no work as he settles mid-field or better on the fence.

Fitter for that first-up run, the step-up to the 1200m here looks ideal for him and already a winner when second-up, the six-year-old looks a major player for the big prize in this contest.

Race 5: No.4  Unbridled Storm

The Chris Waller-trained galloper is high-flying after two starts back and looks set to take a class rise here and be there at the finish of this event.

Last start, the Puissance de Lune gelding went one better than his first-up effort when he broke through for his first win by taking out a set weights Maiden over 1400m at Hawkesbury.

Aaron Bullock settled him near the tail of the field to the turn, then trying to thread his way through tiring traffic, he was held-up several times before crossing off heels and finally clear, he stormed home to grab the gold medal right on the post.

Conceding weight to the minor placegetters, it was a mighty effort to grab the winner’s cheque in the end.

Jumping from barrier eight here, he maps to settled back in the field again and has Nash Rawiller as the new pilot for this assignment.

Going by his last-start effort, the step-up to Class 1 company here shouldn’t pose any issues and with a trouble-free run, he looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.

Race 6: No.4  Glastonbury Girl

The Matt Smith-trained galloper is second-up here and over further ground today, looks the one to beat in this contest.

Last start, the Churchill mare resumed off a none-week spell and did well to finish third in a BM64 Hcp over 1200m at Gosford.

Claire Ramsbotham settled her mid-field to the turn before threading her way through traffic where she was held-up to the 200m mark, then finally clear, she stormed home to grab the minor prize in the race.

Meeting similar company here, she jumps from barrier eight and maps to settle mid-field or better with Zac Lloyd in the saddle for the first time.

Already a winner when second-up, the four-year-old just needs a clear run to the line and she can grab the cash in this contest.
