Race 4: No.5 The Prospect
The Wyong-based galloper is at the top of his game now and looks well placed for back-to-back victories in this event.
Last start, the Trapeze Artist gelding showed a ton of improvement when coming off an unplaced effort first-up, he turned it around and clobbered his rivals in a Maiden Plate over 1500m at Muswellbrook.
From gate seven (of 11), Alysha Collett had him box-seating to the turn when the leader shifted out, leaving a yawning gap for the gelding to take advantage of, then taking over soon after straightening, he found another gear and raced away to score by 1.5 lengths on the line.
Promoted to Class 1 company today, he draws well in gate four and maps to be box-seating again with Tommy Berry as the new pilot.
Down in weight and fitter for two runs back, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 5: No.2 Valentiago
Peter Snowden saddles-up Valentiago here who is second-up and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can claim victory in this event.
Last start, the Dundeel gelding resumed off a 16-week spell and did well to finish third in a BM64 Hcp over 1350m at Wyong.
Mitch Stapleford settled him mid-field one off the fence to the turn, then on straightening the leader (Copacabana) had pinched a winning break and was off for the prize but to his credit, the gelding ran home strongly along the inside and arrived in time to grab the minor prize.
Drawn ideally in gate two here, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Tom Sherry back for his third ride on the gelding.
Already a winner over the 1800m trip and finishing runner-up in both second-up appearances to date, he looks a prime candidate for the major prize in this contest.
Race 6: No.9 Divine Secrets
Another from the Peter Snowden stable, Divine Secrets is three starts into this preparation and should now be ready to produce her best in this event.
Last start, the Deep Field mare found the podium again when she finished third in a BM64 Hcp over 1400m at Hawkesbury.
Chad Schofield settled her fourth one off the fence to the turn, then in the run home, while little chance of running down the first two past the post, she battled on gamely and arrived in time to grab the minor money in the race.
At her peak here, she draws gate six and maps to settle better than mid-field with Schofield steering the ship again.
Although carrying a half kilo over her allotted weight for this assignment, she still carries less weight than last start and with a trouble-free run, looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.
Race 7: No.5 Vain Temptress
The David Pfieffer-trained galloper has impressed in two career starts to date and ticks the right boxes here to suggest she can go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Shamus Award mare came off a debut maiden win on this track when she stepped-up in grade and beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1100m at Wyong.
Regan Bayliss settled her mid-field early before creeping closer nearing the turn, then on straightening, she settled down to fight it out with Cosmic Order but was out-bobbed on the line, beaten a head in the end.
Trying her luck against BM64 company here, she gets the gun-run from gate one with Bayliss in the saddle again and now a track and distance winner, the four-year-old is worth a ticket on both totes in this contest.
