Race 2: No.6 Petticoat
The Coffs Harbour-based galloper comes north of the border again and ticks most boxes to suggest she can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the well-bred Better Than Ready mare resumed off a 17-week break when she finished a creditable fourth in a BM78 over 1000m at Gosford.
First time out of a top-three finish when first-up, Zac Wadick settled her second one off the fence without cover before challenging for the lead soon after straightening, but in the run home, her condition gave out but still battled on to finish just behind the placegetters, beaten just a length on the line.
The mare lines-up here where she gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling with Kyle Wilson-Taylor aboard for his fourth ride on the mare.
Placed twice when second-up previously, she is drawn to find a better run in transit here and fitter for that first-up run, the four-year-old looks a solid each-way chance in this contest.
Race 4: No.4 Martist
Tony Gollan saddles-up Martist here who is second-up and yet to miss a top-two finish, looks set here to keep that record intact.
Last start, the Trapeze Artist colt resumed off a 10-week spell and beat all but one home in the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic over 1200m at Doomben.
Unwanted in the market ($19), he drew the outside gate (12) where Mark Zahra settled him back in the field before scouting wide on the turn, then blocked for a run, he came back inside and hit the line strongly, squeezing between runners to grab the silver medal on the line.
Drawn nicely in gate four, he maps to settle in the second half of the field with Zahra steering the ship again.
Fitter for that first-up run, the two-year-old can only improve off that effort and with the better draw, looks a real threat in this contest.
Race 6: No.5 Brave Monarch
The Team Munce-trained galloper is shooting for the hat-trick here and looks the testing material in this event.
Last start, the Brave Smash gelding made it five wins from his seven starts to date when taking out the Group 2 Queensland Guineas, here over 1600m.
On a Heavy 8 that day, Martin Harley settled him back in the field on the fence top the turn and sticking to the inside, the seas parted, giving him a dream passage on straightening where he grabbed the lead soon after and raced awa with the Guineas crown, winning by a length on the line.
Drawn well here in gate five, he maps to settle near mid-field with Harley in pride of place.
Now a winner in the heavy going, the forecast for a wet track should pose no problems for him and unbeaten at the track and trip, only bad luck looks like preventing the three-year-old from ringing-up the hat-trick in this contest.
