Race 5: No.7 Highwire Girl
The John Shelton-trained galloper is two starts into this preparation and now looks ready to strike in this event.
Last start, the Trapeze Artist mare showed plenty of improvement when she beat all but one home in a BM58 over 1320m at Lismore.
With Archie McColm aboard, she settled mid-field on the fence to the turn, then on straightening she ran home strongly but was no match for the leader, taking home second prize on the day.
Drawn in gate seven today, she maps to cross and settle just off the pace and after steering her to a maiden win, Luke Rolls returns to steer the ship for this assignment.
Already a winner when third-up and boasting a strong wet-track record, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 7: No.7 Rich Star
Chris Manson saddles-up Rich Star here who is in great touch this time in and looks well placed to give this event a real shake today.
Last start, the Rich Enuff gelding made it a hat-trick of podium finishes when he finished a close-up third in a Class 3 Hcp over 1008m at Taree.
From gate seven and carrying top weight (59.5kgs), he settled second outside the leader to the turn, then tracked wide and in the run home, never stopped chasing before taking home the minor prize for the race, out-bobbed on the line for second money.
Grace Palmer retains the ride today and from gate five, the gelding maps to settle just behind the speed as he steps-up to the 1200m trip.
The five-year-old has proven to be a real punter’s pal boasting 10 podium finishes from his 11 career starts to date and with a trouble-free run here, he looks destined for another top-three finish in this contest.
Race 8: No.1 Prince Of Prophets
The Sally Taylor-trained galloper is second-up today and with a big drop in grade, looks well placed to score his third career victory in this event.
Last start, the Divine Prophet gelding resumed off a 22-week spell and did well to finish a close-up third in a Class 2 Hcp over 1181m at Grafton.
From gate seven, Grady Spokes dropped him back to the tail of the field where he tracked them to the turn, then on straightening, gained a split between runners and hit the line strongly, arriving in time to grab that minor prize, beaten less than a length on the post.
From gate four, he maps to settle back in the field with spokes in the saddle again and steps-up to a more suitable 1400m trip.
He carries more weight today but is dropping sharply in grade as he faces BM58 company.
Already a winner when second-up and a two-time winner on wet tracks, the six-year-old has the resume to suggest he will take beating in this contest.
