Race 1 No.8- Just Like Gaby
Going with Just Like Gaby in the opener at Caulfield. The four-year-old has had the two runs this time in for a BenchMark 66 win over the 1000m ahead of Actuality before working very hard early on to sit outside the lead and just fading late when 5th over the 1100m at Caulfield behind Don’t Hope Do on October 15. Grand Larceny was runner-up in that race and has since scored at Flemington on Champions Day. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper went 8.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any horse in this race. The daughter of Pierata out of the former gun mare, Loving Gaby, was an improver on figures when scoring third up at her last preparation and draws to enjoy the perfect run with Thomas Stockdale to ride. He strikes at 21% for the stable, providing a 39% profit on investment.
Race 4 No.6- Beast Mode
Sticking with Beast Mode in Race 4. The Team Hayes galloper has been on fire in recent times with a couple of big wins at Moonee Valley. He led all the way in the opener on Cox Plate day over the 1000m and was a three-length winner at the venue prior to that. The six-year-old needs to transfer that to Caulfield but is a previous winner at the venue and does seem to be in career best form, smashing the clock in his most recent start to go more than 19 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He faces his toughest task to date but gets in well with the 56kg and Craig Williams sticks on board.
Race 8 No.5- Angel Capital
Angel Capital looks ready to peak and land his first Group 1 victory in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. The Waller-trained entire hasn’t raced since The Everest (1200m), where he finished 6th and just over half a length behind Jimmysstar despite never getting clear air. He’s been targeted perfectly for this race, bypassing the Golden Eagle (1500m) and returning to a venue where he boasts two wins from four starts, including the Group 2 Autumn Stakes. Expect him to settle midfield from barrier 5 with Ben Melham giving him a stalking run before unleashing that explosive late burst — he ran the fastest final 400m in The Everest and should relish the smaller field here.
