Caulfield Racing Tips for February 21 – Lightly raced five-year-old the one to beat early on Blue Diamond Stakes day

Here are our best bets from the meeting that features three Group 1 events, including the feature race, the Blue Diamond Stakes.
Race 2 No.3- Pallaton
This is a very nice early on at Caulfield with some top three-year-olds in action. Pallaton should improve off a first up effort that saw him finish 4th of the six runners in the Rubiton Stakes (1100m) earlier this month. The Mitch Freedman-trained galloper was up against the older horses and was slow out of the blocks, landing last on a crawling tempo. He made up a bit of ground with the fastest 400m-200m split before the race shape counted against at the business end. He came along in leaps and bounds with racing under the belt during the spring and has the fitness benefit over a few of his rivals here. Barrier 2 and Craig Williams are ticks.
Race 3 No.2- Immediacy
I liked what Immediacy produced when first up over the 1600m at Group 3 level and the lightly raced five-year-old can go on with it. His run came on February 7 and he made an early move, issuing the challenge in the straight to miss out in narrow fashion behind the Group 1 winner, Light Infantry Man. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper went 10 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner in this race. He was a second up winner over the 2000m at his last preparation when stepping up to a Saturday race at Mornington, before scoring at the track and trip. I expect him to settle close to the speed, which is usually the place to be early on at Caulfied in smallish fields.
Race 7 No.7- Treasurethe Moment
Treasurethe Moment returns to Caulfield where she produced a dominant performance when first up in the spring, taking out the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at the track and trip. She went 14 lengths faster than standard that day. While she did not score again after that, she was able to place in four races, including the Cox Plate (2040m), despite suffering a setback after her Memsie win. The Matt Laurie-trained mare is renowned for her performances over longer trips, having taken out the VRC and Australian Oaks but I believe her best is over the 1400m-1600m distance range. From barrier 6 she can roll forward in a race lacking genuine early speed and control proceedings at weight-for-age.
Race 9 No.10- Geegees Mistruth
Geegees Mistruth looks primed to strike in a high-pressure Oakleigh Plate where tempo should suit her perfectly. Her run in the Adams Stakes was better than it reads on paper, finishing 3rd behind Way To The Stars after being held up at a crucial stage and unable to fully extend when the sprint went on. That race rated strongly, and with clearer air she arguably could have gone close to winning. She has shown in previous preparations that she improves sharply second-up and maps to enjoy a soft run from the inside draw, stalking the speed before peeling into clear running late. With a genuine tempo expected and several key rivals likely to engage in an early battle, her ability to settle, conserve energy and produce a sharp final 400m makes her a serious contender at the weights.
