Race 3: No.9 Events
The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper has impressed with three podium finishes to date and looks well placed here to keep her record intact in this event.
Last start, the Lonhro filly came off her maiden win (on this track) and finished a close-up third when taking on BM68 company over 1300m on the Kensington circuit at Randwick.
Chad Schofield settled her fourth one off the fence to the turn and in the run home chased hard but was unable to bridge the gap, doing her best work over the final 100m to claim the minor prize in the race.
Facing BM64 competition today, she jumps from gate six and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and has Schofield sticking with her for this assignment.
Already a winner at the track and at her peak after those three runs to date, the three-year-old meets the favourite 3kgs better and will take beating in this contest.
Race 5: No.5 Format
Waterhouse & Bott saddle-up Format here who is second-up and looks set to impress in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Frankel gelding resumed after five months off the scene and in need of the run, finished fifth in a BM72 Hcp, here over 1550m.
On a Heavy 8 that day, Adam Hyeronimus settled him back in the field to the turn, then sticking to the fence, made up some ground before his condition gave out, beaten three lengths over the line.
Stepping-up to a more suitable distance today, he draws gate five for the 1900m event and maps to settle in the back half of the field with Hyeronimus in the saddle again.
The four-year-old likes the sting out of the ground having already won twice on a soft track and boasting success when second-up previously, he looks a major player in this contest.
Race 8: No.3 Love Shuck
The Todd Smart-trained galloper is high-flying this time in and looks a strong chance at odds of taking out this event.
Last start, the Mikki Isle gelding made it four-straight podium finishes when he beat all but one to the line in Open company over 1206m on the synthetic track at Canberra.
Jumping from barrier eight (of 10), he settled worse than mid-field and trapped three wide to the turn where he tracked even wider then in the run home, made up good ground and while lumping 62.5kgs, looked a winning chance but was grabbed by one better on the day (and carrying 7.5kgs less in weight).
He sees the Canterbury track for the first time today where he draws well in gate four and maps to settle near mid-field with regular rider Billy Owen steering the ship again.
At his pet distance here and in top-shelf form, a trouble-free run can see him competing for victory where an each-way ticket looks the way to go in this contest.
