Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at the Sunshine Coast on 4 July.

Race 1: BM70 HCP (1200m) – Livalittle

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding resumed off a 22-week absence on Saturday and caught the eye when a fast finishing second in this event.

Drawn the fence, he drifted back to settle near last, spotting the leaders some seven lengths, then in the run home, kept coming off heels until finally seeing daylight and in the final 100m, stormed home to grab the silver medal with Leah Martyn aboard.

Lightly-raced, the four-year-old has seen the track just 11 times to date but has won four of those appearances and found the podium on nine occasions and after that impressive return, looks set for a promising campaign this time in.

Race 3: QTIS Two-Year-Old Hcp (1000m) – Tengun Tommy

The Flying Artie gelding was second-up on Saturday and remains unbeaten this preparation with another impressive win in this event.

Settling mid-field early, he stuck on the fence to the turn where he eased off the rail, then on straightening, Ben Thompson steered him back to the inside where he secured clear running room and finished off too strong for them, holding off Areprice to grab his second-straight win.

Tony Gollan has a smart one here who looks a promising type and is one well worth following from here.

Race 9: BM85 Hcp (1400m) – Felix The Scat

Another Gollan-trained galloper, the five-year-old resumed off a four-month break on Saturday and turned plenty of heads when finishing third in this event.

He drew the carpark in gate 15 (of 16) and settled worse than mid-field where he was trapped three-wide to the turn before scouting wide, then was held-up to the 100m mark where he finally saw daylight and hit the line strongly to grab the minor prize in the race.

Fitter for that run, he will be looking for more ground now so stick with him as he progresses through this campaign.
