Belmont racing takes place on Wednesday, August 5 with an 8-race program set down for the Belmont racetrack.

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Belmont racetrack.

Race 3: No.4  Poblano

The Jason Miller-trained galloper is in great touch this time in and ticks enough boxes here to suggest she is a prime candidate for the major prize in this event.

Last start, the Irish-sired mare impressed when she beat all but one home in a Class 5 Hcp over 1300m at Pinjarra.

Drawn the carpark in gate 12 (of 13), William Pike settled him third, on the leader’s heels to the turn, then tracking wide, set out after them but in the run home, couldn’t bridge the gap and had to settle for second prize that day.

This looks easier here and from gate six, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Pike in control again.

The stable fit the blinkers for the first time and already a winner here, the five-year-old looks set to bounce back and claim another win in this contest.

Race 4: No.4  Sharpassa

Another from the Jason Miller stable, Sharpassa goes to the gates second-up here and despite the wide draw, looks a major player for victory in this event.

Last start, the Sessions mare resumed off a 21-week absence and did well to beat all but one home in a No Metro-Win Hcp over 1000m at Northam.

Lucy Fiore settled her second on the leader’s heels to the turn, before securing a rails run and eventually bridged the gap but was grabbed by a swooper on the line, leaving her with the silver medal in the race.

She draws the outside gate (11) here and maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with William Pike back for his second ride on the mare.

Already a winner when second-up, this Class 1 test should be a little easier for her and over the 1000m sprint, she strips fitter and looks in the mix for a win in this contest.

Race 7: No.5  You Can Call Me Al

The Ascot-based galloper is second-up here and the stats suggest he is a main contender for the big prize in this event.

Last start, the Gingerbread Man gelding resumed after 19 weeks in the paddock and impressed when he finally broke through for his first win, taking out a set weights Maiden over 1000m at Pinjarra.

From gate nine (of 12), he settled back in the field and was near last as they turned, then in the run home, secured clean air between runners and stormed home to grab the win right on the line.

He steps-up sharply in grade here and faces Class 3 company where he draws much better in gate five and maps to settle near mid-field on the fence with Cassey Martinan as the new pilot for this assignment.

The five-year-old will strip fitter for that last-start win and with a trouble-free run here, looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
