Race 4: No.5 Big Return
The Jamie Richards-trained galloper is three starts into this campaign and looks a serious player in this event.
Last start, the Divine Prophet gelding showed enough improvement of his first two runs back when he clobbered his rivals when taking out Class 3 Hcp, here over 1800m.
Coming off a seven-day turnaround, he faced the 1800m trip for the first time where he settled just behind the speed to the turn, then in the run home, secured a dream split between runners and wound-up by Alex Badel, raced away to score by 2.5 lengths on the line.
From gate five today, he maps to settle better than mid-field with Badel steering the ship again for this assignment.
The step-up to the 2000m looks ideal for him here and with a trouble-free run, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 7: No.7 Ka Ying Attack
The David Hall-trained galloper lines-up here off three straight wins and second-up today, looks the one to beat again in this event.
Last start, the Too Darn Hot gelding resumed off the season break and did it in style when he took out a Class 2 Hcp, here over 1200m.
From gate 10 (of 12), Matthew Poon settled him back in the field (unlike his usual front-running role), where he tracked the field to the turn, then sticking to the inside, Poon threaded his way along the fence and scored a needle-eye opening under the leader where he took full advantage of that and snuck through to grab victory on the line.
Similar tactics may apply here as he draws barrier eight and maps to cross and settle worse than mid-field with Poon in the saddle again.
This Group 2 challenge is his hardest to date, but with all six career wins coming on the Sha Tin track and in winning form as well, the five-year-old should still prove the testing material at the weights in this contest.
Race 10: No.4 Megastar Heart
Second-up today, the Caspar Fownes-trained galloper is in the best of form and ticks all the boxes that suggest he can go back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the Star Turn gelding resumed off a 15-week spell and made it look easy when he clobbered his rivals in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m.
Having his first ride on the gelding, Luke Ferraris was happy to settle him second outside the leader where he remained to the turn, then in the run home, cruised to the lead and left the rest to fight out the minor placings as he crossed the line two lengths clear, eased over the final 100m of the race but still ran the trip in a hot 1:08.5.
Asked to carry 3kgs more today, he meets similar company over the same trip and has Ferraris at the helm again for this assignment.
He gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be on or near the speed from the outset.
Already a winner when second-up, and a winner at the track and trip now, the extra weight shouldn’t disadvantage him too much and with a clear run to the line, he should be there at the finish again in this contest.
