Race 4: No.1 Audacious Pursuit
The Caspar Fownes-trained galloper is in good touch this time in and looks well placed here for another tilt at victory in this event.
Last start, the Ardrossan gelding returned to the podium when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1800m.
With Hugh Bowman aboard, he drew the carpark in gate 13 (of 14) and dropped back to settle last before scouting wide again on the turn and after covering more territory than the early explorers, he carried his top weight of 61kgs home to grab second prize for the race.
Drawn much better today in gate three, he maps to settle near mid-field with cover and with a 2.5kg claim, he is joined by Ellis Wong for this assignment.
A better gate and less weight puts him right in the mix for this contest.
Race 7: No.7 Patch Of Stars
Manfred Man-trained galloper has two wins from his five starts this campaign and looks set to add another one to resume in this event.
Last start, the All Too Hard gelding landed his eighth top-three finish when he took home third prize in a Class 2, here over 1200m.
Zac Purton settled him third, box-seating behind the leader before peeling wide on the turn where he ran home strongly but just couldn’t quite match it with the first two past the post, carrying 59.5kgs.
From barrier eight today, he maps to cross and settle better than mid-field and will appreciate the 4kg drop in weight for today’s assignment.
Purton steers the ship again and meeting similar company here with less weight on his back, he looks a serious player for the major prize in this contest.
Race 9: No.2 City Gold Banner
The Jamie Richards-trained galloper was impressive on his Hong Kong debut and looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Starspangledbanner gelding turned plenty of heads when he came off three straight trial wins and easily accounted for his rivals in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m down the straight course.
Zac Purton settled him near mid-field with cover before peeling off heels inside the final 200m and gave them all a cold as he whizzed by them and went on to score by more than a length with plenty to spare.
The four-year-old has since won another trial in preparation for this assignment.
He has more weight to carry today but draws well in gate five and maps to take a trail behind the leading bunch again with Purton remaining aboard.
After such a strong debut effort, he looks the one to beat in this contest.
