Race 3: No.4 Think Back
The Scott Singleton-trained galloper is third-up today and with a major gear change, gets her chance to bounce back in this event.
Last start, the So You Think mare came off a first-up podium finish on this track when she headed to the city and finished unplaced in a Class 2 Highway Hcp over 1400m at Rosehill.
From barrier eight, Mikayla Weir had her leading on settling where she was under pressure and set a solid pace to the turn, then in the run home she put up a bold fight but ran out of gas over the final 50 metres, finishing sixth overall.
Returning to the country scene here, she meets similar company while stepping-up to the mile trip and from gate two, maps to be at the head of the pack again with Weir retaining the ride for this assignment.
The stable have fitted a tongue tie on the mare for the first time today and already a winner when third-up, they could have a job on their hands running her down in this contest.
Race 4: No.7 Summer Force
The Lou Mary-trained galloper has impressed in two career starts to date and looks well placed to handle the class rise and collect the winner’s cheque in this event.
Last start, the Cosmic Force filly came off a runner-up finish on debut when she went one better by taking out a Maiden Hcp, here over 1300m.
Drawn the outside gate (11), Jean Van Overmeire settled the filly at the tail of the field early before creeping into the race before the turn, then on straightening with only two behind her, she scouted wide and showing a strong turn-of-foot, gathered in all in front of her and went to score a good win over the line.
From gate six, she maps to settle in the back-half of the field with Van Overmeire in the saddle again.
Taking on Class 1 company here, the three-year-old will strip even fitter today and should prove hard to hold out again in this contest.
Race 8: No.8 Nomomeikushi
The Kris Lees-trained galloper is second-up today and down in grade, looks a strong winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Tosen Stardom mare resumed after eight months off the scene and in need of the run, finished unplaced in a Class 1 Hcp over 1150m on the Beaumont circuit at Newcastle.
From gate seven (of 9), Dylan Gibbons settled her mid-field where she was trapped three-deep to the turn, then on straightening, she dropped right out of it to the 200m mark, then found another breath of wind and finished off well to still beat one home.
Fitter for that first-up run, she draws gate seven here and maps to settle better than mid-field with Andrew Gibbons (Dylan’s father) returning for his third ride on the mare, having already steered the four-year-old to her maiden victory last preparation.
Already a winner when second-up, the mare looks well placed here to figure in the finish of this contest.
