Coleraine Racing Tips for September 25 – Promising galloper can land the win at first run back from spell.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which will be followed by the Friday night meeting at Cranbourne. 

This is a very weak race and Yankee Street Rain can finally break through. The Warrnambool-based galloper resumed at this track and trip late last month and settled just worse than midfield before running into a bit of a traffic jam in the straight when placing third. He had trialled well heading into that run and the seven-year-old has produced some solid performances on good surfaces. At the second start of his last campaign, he produced one of the better performances of his career when runner-up over 1400m at Casterton. His form tapered off later in that preparation, but he should be suited here and comes in with the best last-start benchmark figures of any runner in the race. He also draws to enjoy the perfect run from barrier five. This could very well be his day.

Wouldn't mind having something each-way on Chief Little Rock in the feature of the day, the Coleraine Cup. The former Irish Group 3 winner hasn't done much since coming to Australia but showed something at Morphettville a couple of starts back with a big weight before over-racing badly at his most recent start. He set a hectic tempo out in front that day before dropping out of the race, so it is a run worth forgiving. He just needs to settle a little better this time around. The drop back in distance and grade should suit the six-year-old, who will be ridden by John Allen. The Cox Plate-winning jockey strikes at 20% for the stable, providing a 37% profit on investment for punters.

Going with Media Puppet in the last race of the day. The Chris Calthorpe-trained galloper has had just one career start, producing a dominant win at Seymour back in July. He settled back in the field of 12 before rattling home to score by three lengths. The talent is clearly there and he went 1.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is more than five lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner in this race. The promising four-year-old will have to do it first-up but comes in with a trial under the belt. He is likely to settle back again, but there should be sufficient tempo ahead of him with a number of his rivals preferring to go forward. Expect him to be running on hard and go very close to making it two wins from as many starts.
