Randwick racing takes place on Saturday, April 12 with a 10-race program set down for Randwick racetrack.
- Race 3: No.3 Magnatear
- Race 8: No.12 Via Sistina
- Race 9: No.1 Fangirl
We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Randwick racetrack.
Race 3: No.3 Magnatear
The Team Freedman-trained Magnatear has been in top-shelf form this time in and looks well prepared to challenge for the major prize here at great odds.
Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding qualified for the Final when he beat all but one home in the Championships Wildcard at Wyong.
Well supported that day ($3.40-$2.80), he settled just off the speed, then in the run home, finished strongly to grab second prize, beaten a head on the line.
He gets the gun-run from gate one here and maps to be box-seating on settling with the experienced Tom Marquand on board for the first time.
The five-year-old has proven to be a punter’s pal boasting 15 podium finishes from his 20 career starts and here he looks weighted and gated to pose a real threat in this contest at solid each-way odds.
Race 8: No.12 Via Sistina
Chris Waller’s champion mare has won her past two starts at Group 1 level and looks ideally placed here to bring up the hat-trick in this Group 1 event.
Last start, the Fastnet Rock mare made it look easy when she claimed another Group 1 scalp by taking out the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.
With regular rider James McDonald (J.Mac) aboard, she cruised to the front inside the final 200m and went on to win under hands and heels with plenty to spare.
She gets the red carpet treatment here drawing gate one and has J.Mac in pride of place and while she comes up skinny with the bagmen (currently $1.95), she looks cheery-ripe to claim her ninth Group 1 success in this year’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Race 9: No.1 Fangirl
Chris Waller saddles-up Fangirl here who is in top-shelf form herself and looks the testing material in this year’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
Last start, the Sebring mare was unlucky when finishing second behind Gringotts in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.
Drawn wide in gate nine, she travelled three-deep without cover the entire trip only to be beaten a half-head on the line with J.Mac aboard.
She draws better here in gate six and maps to settle near mid-field with cover this time as J.Mac takes control again.
Already a three-time Group 1 winner and has seven wins on the Randwick track to date, a trouble-free run here should see her collecting the trophy in this contest.
