Port Macquarie racing takes place on Monday, May 19 with an 8-race program set down for Port Macquarie racetrack.

Race 2: No.2 Confederate Lady

The Grafton-based galloper is in good touch this preparation and third-up today looks well placed to score career-win number two in this event.

Last start, the Supido filly finished a close-up third in a BM58, here over 1000m.

On a Heavy 8 that day, Teighan Worsnop had her box-seating to the turn, then on straightening, the filly lost a plate and did well to battle on and claim the minor prize, finishing just a length from the winner.

She draws well in gate three here and maps to be box-seating again with Worsnop in the saddle again.

All five career starts to date have been on rain affected tracks where she has found the podium on four occasions and with a trouble-free run here, she looks hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 4: No.4 Lord Akomeed

The locally-trained galloper is in career-best form of late and with conditions to suit, looks set to go on with it in this event.

Last start, the Akeed Mofeed gelding was shooting for the hat-trick when he beat all but one home in a BM58, here over 1200m.

Ben Osmond was in the saddle and on a Heavy 8, found one better on the day claiming second prize in the 11-strong field.

Drawn nicely in gate five today, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and has Ben Looker back aboard (after steering him to victory, here two starts back).

Three of his four career wins have come on wet tracks so conditions today look ideal for him (with more rain forecast this afternoon).

All boxes look ticked here and with a clear run to the line, he looks the one to beat in this contest.

Race 7: No.7 Via Vegas

Local trainer Jonathan Smith saddles-up Via Vegas here who is high-flying after two starts back and ticks all the boxes that suggest he is the one to beat in this event.

Last start, the Boulder City gelding went one better than his first-up effort when he destroyed his rivals in a BM58, here over 1200m.

With Ben Looker aboard, the four-year-old revelled in the Heavy 8 conditions and in the run home, left the rest to sort out the minor money as he crossed the line 3.5 lengths clear of them.

He lines up against Class 2 company today where he draws well in gate four and maps to settle on the speed with Looker at the helm again.

Already a track and distance winner, if they leave him to dictate the race again, he should prove hard to run down in this contest.

Race 8: No.10 Empusa

The Nathan Doyle-trained Empusa is in great touch this time in and with a major gear change today, looks more than capable of bouncing back in this event.

Last start, the Hellbent filly was coming off her maiden win at Hawkesbury when she took on a strong BM64 field and finished last over the mile at Gosford.

Settling mid-field, she never looked comfortable in the run and beaten on the turn, Andrew Gibbons chose not to ride her out, eased in the run home.

Doyle has gone for the blinkers today as Ash Morgan returns to the saddle for his third ride on the three-year-old.

She draws wide in gate ten but maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with cover.

Placed twice on wet tracks previously, conditions won’t hamper her chances here and back to country class racing today, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
