Kyneton Racing Tips for October 8 – Star will be too swift in Race 4
- Bohemian Boy rates highly in Race 1 after competitive recent runs and a favorable class drop.
- Swift Star is backed to overcome a wide barrier in Race 4 with a standout debut benchmark.
- I’m Savvy As, despite modest early prep form, looks well-suited dropping to Benchmark 56 in Race 9.
Kyneton racing takes place on Thursday, October 8, with a competitive country meeting set down for Kyneton.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.
Race 1 No.13 – Bohemian Boy
Bohemian Boy hasn’t been far away in harder races than this at his past two starts and can break through in the opener. The Corstens/Larkin-trained gelding closed off with the fastest last 200m at Sandown two starts ago over 1500m when a two-length fifth behind Boys Bounce. The runner-up from that race subsequently won at Caulfield before placing in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes. Bohemian Boy has had one start since then, stepping up to 1800m and finishing sixth behind Quick Finish in the 3YO Classics Preview. The son of Prague went three lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is three lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner in this race. He should be at peak fitness for what will be his second run at the trip and is likely to settle in the front half with Ben Allen to ride.
Race 4 No.14 – Swift Star
Willing to back Swift Star in Race 4 despite the tricky gate. The Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly draws the outside barrier but looked classy on debut when runner-up behind Handee on the Caulfield Heath. She settled worse than midfield and kept coming to fill the exacta, going 0.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark. That figure is more than seven lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner and is also better than anything else in this race has produced. She will strip fitter and is likely to get back again, but the race could set up well for her with Blue Valentine and Ifthihar both likely to go forward and produce a suitable tempo.
Race 9 No.3 – I’m Savvy As
This looks to be a winnable race for I’m Savvy As. The four-year-old hasn’t done much in his two runs so far this preparation but drops to Benchmark 56 company and was a third-up winner at the identical stage of his previous campaign. He went back in the small field at his most recent start at Sale over 1007m, where they went very slowly early. The son of I Am Immortal worked into the race from the 600m to the 200m, but the lack of early speed made it difficult to make any meaningful ground. He had gone forward in runs prior to that and might be better suited by being ridden more aggressively early. At his third run last preparation, the Reece Goodwin-trained galloper improved six lengths on his benchmark figures when leading all the way. Anything resembling that performance will make him very hard to beat here.
