Race 5: No.1 Our Huntress
The Michael Freedman-trained galloper is in sensational form and at her peak today, looks the one they all have to beat in this event.
Last start, the Ardrossan filly finally broke through for her first win when she took out a Maiden Plate over 1200m at Eagle Farm.
After six-straight minor placings, she found herself leading the way in the 11-strong field and in the run home, found something extra and left them all behind as she crossed the line 2.5 lengths clear of field.
Facing Class 1 opposition today, she gets the gun-run from gate one and with plenty of early speed here, she could possibly take a sit just off the pace with Ben Thompson retaining the ride.
Carrying 60kgs today, she also steps-up in distance but fourth-up and with a clear run home, the three-year-old should still prove to be the testing material in this contest.
Race 6: No.6 Homeric
Team Munce saddle-up Homeric here who is second-up today and expected to improve in this event.
Last start, the Brutal gelding resumed off a 16-week spell and in need of the run, finished down the track in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Eagle Farm.
Ben Osmond settled him last in of the eight runners and in the run home, held his ground beating one to the line, finishing five lengths from the winner.
Stepping-up to a more suitable 1350m trip today, he maps to settle near mid-field with Ryan Wiggins as the new pilot.
Already a winner when second-up and has found the podium four times in six starts over the distance, the four-year-old will strip fitter and should be there at the finish of this contest.
Race 8: No.9 Enchaanted
Another from the Team Munce stable is Enchaanted who is high-flying this time in and despite a wide draw today, looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.
Last start, the Exceedance filly came off her maiden win at Kilcoy when she finished fourth in a BM0-58, here over 1100m.
In a fast-run affair, Tahlia Fenlon settled her second in the 12-strong field to the turn, then in the run home, balled on gamely to finish just behind the placegetters, beaten just two lengths on the line.
Meeting similar company over the same trip here, after scratchings, she her wide draw won’t be so bad where she maps to cross and settle just behind the speed with Fenlon remaining aboard for this assignment.
The stable fit the blinkers for the first time today and at her peak after four runs back, the three-year-old can give this contest a real shake.
