Echuca racing takes place on Friday, July 24, with a competitive country program set down for Echuca.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 4 No.13 – You Said What


You Said What has been knocking on the door this campaign and looks well placed to break her maiden at start No. 10. The four-year-old has placed in three of four runs this time in and had excuses two starts ago at Echuca before just missing out in a head bobber at Wodonga last time, finishing runner-up to Forrest Gump. Those two put nearly four lengths on the rest of the field and she went 2.8 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is six lengths better than the next best figures of any runner in this field. She is likely to get her preferred surface, with a Heavy track expected, and should enjoy a beautiful run in transit from barrier 3 with Lachlan King aboard.

Race 5 No.1 – Forrest Gump


Going with Forrest Gump to make it back-to-back wins when he steps out in Race 5. The former Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained galloper has had two starts for his new stable, leading and going down in a tight finish behind Sparkles and Jimmy Beans when resuming. Jimmy Beans then went on to break his maiden in dominant fashion at Sale, while that same race has also produced another winner. Since then, Forrest Gump lined up on a Heavy track at Wodonga and scored over the 1400m. This is not a huge step up and the son of Alabama Express should have improvement to come at his third run this preparation, while he has the early speed to find a spot despite drawing barrier 12.
