Race 3: No.3 Peace Bird
The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper is in top-shelf form this preparation and looks ideally placed for back-to-back wins in this event.
Last start, the Hellbent mare came off a hat-trick of runner-up finishes when she went one better and broke through for her first win by taking out a 1300m Maiden Hcp on this track.
Dale Cole took her straight to the lead on settling where she set an even tempo to the turn, then in the run home, held them all at bay to the 200m mark where she found a little more and crossed the line 1.5 lengths clear in the end.
Ideally drawn in gate two today, she maps to settle on the speed or box-seating with Cole in the saddle again.
She is stepping-up to Class 2 competition but in winning form now, she still looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 5: No.5 The Eyes Have It
The Luke Pepper-trained galloper is high-flying after three starts back and looks well placed here for a fourth career win in this event.
Last start, the Brutal mare came off a close-up second in a BM58 Hcp when she took on similar company again and went one better, here over 1200m with Brodie Loy aboard.
Settling second early, she sat at the leader’s girth to the turn before taking over on straightening then carrying 60.5kgs, fended off the challenges and hung on to score a good win over the line.
Stepping-up to Class 3 opposition today, she maps to cross and settle better than mid-field from barrier eight with Loy steering the ship again.
A lover of the Goulburn track, she has two wins and a runner-up finish here from her three starts to date and with a trouble-free run today, she can claim another scalp in this contest.
Race 6: No.7 Roonami
Matt Kelley saddles-up Roonami here who is in good touch this time in and ticks enough boxes here to suggest she can figure in this event.
Last start, the Microphone mare rung-up her second career win when she took out a BM58 Hcp over 1400m at Narrandera.
Sitting outside the leader to the turn, Coriah Keatings then took her to the front on straightening and in the run home, held off the challenges to score a good win in the end.
From gate six today, she maps to settle mid-field or better with Jeff Penza as the new pilot for this assignment.
Winning her maiden here three starts back, she is at her peak for this and with a clear run toi the line, the four-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 7: No.6 Flywire
Another from the Matt Kelley stable is Flywire who comes off a first-up win and looks well placed here to frank that effort and claim another major prize in this event.
Last start, the Trapeze Artist gelding resumed off a 21-week absence and impressed when he took out a Maiden Hcp over 1080m on the synthetic track at Canberra.
A money mover in the market ($16-$9), Louise Day settled him last in the field of eight before tracking wide on the turn and although still six lengths off the lead runner, stormed home to claim victory on the line.
Stepping-up to BM58 company today, he draws well in gate four and maps to settle in the back half of the field with Day in charge again.
Recently gelded, his first-up win was impressive and he has every opportunity for back-to-back success in this contest.
