Geelong Racing Tips for October 7 – Saint to Turbo to victory in Race 5
- Cold Shower strong lead contender in Race 1 with best last-start figure.
- Hedjet primed for first win in Race 3 after solid debut.
- Turbo Saint expected to remain unbeaten in Race 5, benefits from strong jockey-stable combo.
Geelong racing takes place on Wednesday, October 7, with a competitive provincial meeting set down for Geelong.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of the major meetings in Australia on Wednesday, alongside the Randwick-Kensington meeting in NSW.
Race 1 No.2 – Cold Shower
Cold Shower should be hard to beat in the opener at Geelong. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained galloper has had just the one start, with that coming at Ballarat over 2000m back on September 18. He settled handy that day before staying on well to place third behind Only Opera. The runner-up out of that race, Sister's Run, has since won with authority at Ballarat. Cold Shower looks like he can stay all day and will no doubt benefit from that performance. He presents as a likely leader here in a race that doesn't seem to have too much pressure on paper, and it's worth noting that he comes in with the best last-start benchmark figure of any runner in the race. From barrier two, look for him to dictate and be very hard to run down late in the piece.
Race 3 No.3 – Hedjet
Hedjet can chalk up the first win of his career when he steps out in Race 3. The imported galloper made his local debut for the Clinton McDonald stable last month at Seymour over 1429m and settled outside the leader before being picked off late by Zoehrer. The four-year-old went 3.4 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last-start figure of any runner in this race. He was an improver at the second run of his debut campaign in Ireland last year when narrowly beaten after stepping up to 1600m. Hedjet should strip fitter at his second run back and stayed on well at Seymour despite the strong tempo, with the leader dropping out of the race. He will likely cross over from the draw, and expect him to be in it for a long way.
Race 5 No.3 – Turbo Saint
Turbo Saint can make it two wins from as many starts when he steps out in Race 5 for the Clinton McDonald stable. The three-year-old has had just the one start for one win, with that coming at Geelong last month. He settled just off the leaders before reeling them in to score by a length from Faster Link. The son of Zousain is one of two runners in the race to have had just one start for one win, with the other being Shaadrille. Those two should be hard to beat, but Turbo Saint has the benefit of already having raced at Geelong, while he draws inside Shaadrille and should be able to enjoy the run of the race with Ben Melham on board. Melham strikes at a healthy 30% for the stable, providing a 20% profit on turnover for punters.
