We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Gatton racetrack.

Race 5: No.2 Brave Horatius

The Phillip Minter-trained galloper is second-up today and is well placed to give this event a real fright.

Last start, the Heroic Valour gelding resumed after more than six months off the scene and in need of the run, finished fifth Class 2 Hcp over 1110m at Toowoomba.

Gary Geran settled him mid-field one off the fence to the turn before tracking wide then boxed on gamely in the run home but lacking race fitness, couldn’t improve, finishing out of the money.

Dropping sharply in grade here, he takes on BM58 company and gets the gun-run from gate one where he maps to settle in the first half-dozen and has Dan McGillivray as the new pilot.

Already a winner when second-up, a trouble-free run should see him hard to beat in this contest.

Race 6: No.6 Kick On Charlie

The Paul Shailer-trained galloper has made a blistering start to his career and looks set for back-to-back success in this event.

Last start, the Love Conquers All gelding came off his minor placing debut and took out a set weights Maiden Plate, here over 1400m.

Danny Peisley had him box-seating on settling to the turn then coming off the leader’s heels, he drew level with the front-runner and ended up in a three-horse fight to the finish where he got the bob-in on the line.

From barrier eight, he maps to push forward and cross to settle just behind the speed with Peisley in the saddle again.

Now a track and distance winner and fitter for those two runs, he looks the testing material in this contest.

Race 8: No.6 Oh Pretty Emma

Second-up today, the William Kropp-trained galloper ticks enough boxes here to be considered a real winning chance in this event.

Last start, the Heroic Valour mare resumed off a lengthy 31-week break and finished third in a BM 0-55, here over 1110m.

Slowly away, Brandon Lerena settled her last of the 11 runners before making up ground along the fence, then on straightening, she was held up and had to track wide before finally seeing daylight where she stormed home and arrived in time to grab the minor prize.

From gate five today, she maps to settle mid-field or better with Lerena steering the ship again for this assignment.

Fitter for that first-up run, she steps-up to a more suitable 1400m trip today and avoiding any trouble, the four-year-old should be there at the finish in this contest.
