Cranbourne Racing Tips for November 6 – Power the one to Beat in the last
- Marsept is tipped in Race 5, with her class from tougher races a key factor.
- Sondera is expected to go close in Race 1, stepping up to 1600m and nearing peak fitness.
- Power And The Beat is expected to improve in Race 8 with a more suitable race tempo.
Cranbourne racing takes place on Friday, November 6, with a quality meeting set down for Cranbourne.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which comes on the eve of Champions Day at Flemington.
Race 1 No.11 – Sondera
Sondera can go close in the opener. The Chris Waller-trained filly has been progressing towards a victory in recent times and resumed with a fourth over the 1300m at Bendigo on October 4 before stepping up to the 1479m at Kyneton at her next start and finishing runner-up behind Tuzemak. The daughter of Stay Inside settled handy in a race that developed into a sit-and-sprint affair but could not go with the eventual winner. She gives the impression that the 1600m will be to her liking and should be nearing peak fitness at her third run. Expect her to settle close to the speed from barrier three and be hard to hold out at the business end.
Race 5 No.2 – Marsept
A nice race with some promising types in action. Going with Marsept to overcome a possible lack of race fitness, with her class likely to take her a long way. The Team Hawkes mare resumes from a spell after a three-start autumn campaign that saw her finish runner-up at both Caulfield and Flemington in much harder races than this, with those two performances split by a dominant Geelong Maiden win. The daughter of Written Tycoon went more than five lengths faster than standard benchmark figures when first-up at her last preparation and closed off that campaign with a performance nearly 12 lengths faster than standard, which is panels above anything her rivals in this race have produced. She should land within striking distance from the draw and I expect to see her in harder races than this in her upcoming preparations.
Race 8 No.4 – Power And The Beat
Expecting improvement from Power And The Beat in the final race at Cranbourne. The four-year-old showed promise when resuming with a third at Geelong over the 1247m but was outsprinted at the recent Geelong Cup Day meeting when fifth over the 1400m. Interestingly, at the same stage of his debut preparation, the Smiley Chan-trained galloper produced a flat run second-up before improving more than four lengths on benchmark figures to score at Geelong. I suspect the son of Belardo needs something a bit more genuinely run than what was presented at his most recent start, and he should get that in this race with the likes of Finance Shogun and Hedjet to string them along a bit.
