Caulfield Racing Tips for October 11- Promising four-year-old to deliver in the Schillaci Stakes

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for Caulfield racetrack.

Point Barrow should be hard to beat in Race 2. The promising filly drops slightly in grade from Group 3 level and comes off a last start 3rd in the Alexandra Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley. She settled back in that race in a slowly run affair on a night where the majority of winners settled in the first three. The daughter of Blue Point closed off with the fastest last 200m to land just over a length away. She draws out and might be forced back again but the tempo should be alot better in this race with a stack of these that like to go forward. 

Happy to side with Sepals in the Toorak Handicap. The Cliff Brown-trained galloper was enormous in the Sir Rupert Clarke, overcoming a slow start and a tough wide run to claim an impressive Group 1 victory. He now looks to join rare company by adding the Toorak to his spring résumé, a double not achieved since 2014. Sepals ran fourth behind Feroce in the Australian Guineas earlier in the year, suggesting the mile holds no fears if he can enjoy a softer run in transit. From barrier 5, Craig Williams should be able to settle him just behind the speed — likely following Feroce and Transatlantic — and the tempo looks more even than last start. His Rupert Clarke win rated 15.8 lengths above standard benchmark, the best last-start figure in this field, and he appears to be peaking third-up. With tactical versatility and genuine class on his side, Sepals can etch his name alongside some of the great modern Toorak winners.

Keen on Wodeton in the Caulfield Guineas. The Chris Waller colt comes off a runner-up behind Beiwacht in the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill, a race that has proved to be an excellent tune up to the Guineas. In the Golden Rose, Wodeton was well beaten by four lengths but the winner broke records that day, while Wodeton closed off with the fastest last 200m, going 10.4 lenghts faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Vinrock is the only horse in this race that has produced a slightly better figure. The son of Wooten Bassett draws a tad awkwardly but will be ridden by the best in the land, James McDonald, and we can expect him to be hard to hold out at the business end. 

Happy to be with Tropicus in the Schillaci Stakes. The four-year-old showed talent as a younger horse and might finally be beginning to put it altogether. He resumed with a dominant win the Group 3 Heath (1100m) at the track and trip in late August, going a very healthy 14 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is more than five lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. There was some school of thought on the day that he was advantaged by the leaderish track but the form out of that has been excellent, with Arkansaw Kid going on to win at Group 2 level, while Feroce and Mazu have placed in Group 1 affairs. Expect the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper to have a bit of improvement to come at his second run and he did score in the Zeditave Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield at the same stage of his last preparation.
