Caulfield Race 5 No. 2- Recommendation
The Vale Black Caviar has attracted a small but select field of to go up against one another at Group 3 level and Recommendation can continue his winning ways. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper has come out firing this preparation with two wins, including a seven-length romp in the John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield when resuming before taking out the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) ahead of Semillion. His best form does seem to be over the 1100m and the five-year-old went a healthy 14 lenghts faster than standard benchmark when taking out the Monash. He will push across from barrier 7 and unless Marble Nine and Acromantula kick up inside him, he shouldnt have to burn too many fuel tickets early on.
Caulfield Race 9 No 7- Pride Of Jenni
Group 1 racing returns to Melbourne and I am keen on Pride Of Jenni to pick up from where she left off in the autumn. The Ciaron Maher-trained mare produced some extraordinary performances when claiming the All-Star Mile (1600m)and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m). She has finished ahead of Mr Brightside in four of the five occsions that the two have met. The slight question mark is her first up form and she is winless in seven attempts when fresh but she has clearly improved with age and just went down in the Orr Stakes (1400m) at her last prepration. Expect her to lead and adopt the catch me if you can tactics that have delivered her some big wins in the past.
Caulfield Race 9 No 3- Gentleman Roy
I am also willing to have something each-way on Gentleman Roy in the Memsie Stakes. He comes in with some excellent form, having recently won the PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at the track and trip on August 17, going more than 10 lengths faster than standard benchmark. It is worth noting that he has form on the board over Mr Brightside at Group 1 level, having finished ahead of that horse in the Orr Stakes (1400m) last year. He is likely to be carted forward with Pride Of Jenni drawing just inside him and is more than capable of sticking on at the business end.
Caulfield Race 10 No. 2- Another Wil
The market just prior to the race will be a key indicator but Another Wil has the class to go a long way in the final race of the day. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper has won five of eight with a couple of those by big margins and resumes after placing 7th in the Doncaster Mile (1600m) in the autumn. He was at the end of a long preparation that day and just tired late. The five-year-old won four in a row prior to that by a combined margin of 13 lenghts. The son of Street Boss draws wide and carries the 60.5kg but has handled weight when fresh at his last preparation, while he gets the steer from Jamie Kah.
