Doomben racing takes place on Saturday, August 31 with a nine-race program set for the QLD metro meeting.
- Race 1: No. 5 Redwood Shadow
- Race 3: No. 6 Moulin Miss
- Race 8: No. 3 Patton
- Race 9: No. 12 Brereton
We have the best bets picked out from across day with value selections for Doomben Racecourse.
Race 1: No. 5 Redwood Shadow
Despite being placed in four of his last six, there is a win in this horse very soon.
He was beaten by half a length at this course and distance two starts back in a very similar grade of race and he’ll appreciate getting back onto a firm surface as opposed to last start where he finished third.
He’s drawn a nice barrier and is one of the better each way bets on the entire program in my opinion.
Race 3: No. 6 Moulin Miss
Tony Gollan has another exciting filly on his hands and Moulin Miss comes into this event off the back of two wins from as many starts so far this prep.
She was briefly held up for a run at the top of the straight at Doomben three weeks ago over 1110m but stormed away from her rivals to score by 1.5 lengths.
There’s no doubt this is a tougher task, with some progressive young horses in the race, but she looks a class above.
Race 8: No. 3 Patton
This six-year-old gelding has just six wins to his name from 35 career starts but he has performed strongly in this grade for some time now.
He appreciated the drop back to provincial level at Ipswich level last start to score a nice win by just shy of a length.
The weight is a concern and it’s the price that really interests me for this horse.
Each way play.
Race 9: No. 12 Brereton
After a strong start to his racing career which included a win in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate down the Flemington straight as a two-year-old, he failed to match it thereafter in Victoria.
The ownership decided to send him up to sunny Queensland where he is having a great time of it, winning two of his three starts this campaign and finishing second in the other.
This looks another nice race for him as he continues to be well placed.
