Race 1 No.8- Whiskey On The Hill

Whiskey On The Hill shapes as an each-way player in the opener at Caulfield. The six-year-old has had just the one run this time in and was solid considering the circumstances, placing 8th behind Too Darn Discreet after being posted wide throughout. The Glenn Thompson-trained galloper went 8.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark and at his last preparation, he was an eight length improver when second up, going from a well beaten 6th at Moonee Valley over the 1600m to an eye-catching 3rd over the 1800m at Caulfield. He then won twice at the venue. 1800m might be a touch short of his best but he does have a touch of class and the race should set up nicely with a bit of speed ahead of him early on.

Race 3 No.13- Capper Thirtynine

Capper Thirtynine should be ready to fly at his third runs back from a spell. The consistent galloper has placed in six of his past seven, winning one. Two of those have come at his current preparation and he only narrowly went down over the 1200m at Flemington when resuming before producing a tough on-pace effort when forced to go for home early on, eventually running 3rd over the 1400m at Caulfield behind Home Rule. He should enjoy a softer time of it this time around from the better barrier and we can expect him to give more of a kick at the business end with the 3kg claimer, Luke Cartwright to ride.

Race 8 No.10- Pop Award

Pop Award can continue her winning streak when she steps out in the Cockram Stakes. The lightly raced five-year-old has now won five in a row with two of those coming at her current preparation. She stepped up to Listed grade at Caulfield on August 16 and was an impressive winner by over a length from Arkansaw Kid in the Regal Roller Stakes (1200m). That was off a slow tempo but she was good enough to do it when the heat was on first up, going a healthy 14.4 lengths faster than standard, while she should have improvement to come at her third run back. A slight firmer in the early betting, she just needs to find a spot with cover early on from barrier 11 to continue her impressive run.
