Caulfield Racing Tips for August 29 – Eagle to land second win from as many starts in McNeil Stakes

Race 2 No.14- Jenni Multabella
Keen on Jenni Multabella with the light weight in Race 2. The promising galloper has had three starts this time in and was an impressive winner at Sandown over the 1400m last month then was unlucky when rising in class and distance at the Caulfield Heath Saturday meeting on August 8 when a very narrow runner-up behind Davida. The Lloyd Kennewell mare lost ground at the start and was posted wide the trip but kept coming with the fastest last 200m to just miss behind Davida, who led all the way. She went more than 10 lengths faster than standard benchmark, producing the best last start figure of any horse in this race, while she drops 3.5kg in weight. Jamie Kah rides and the pair should be hard to hold out at the business end.
Race 4 No.19- Cruiserweight
Cruiserweight can bounce back when he steps out in Race 4. The promising galloper was disappointing when rolled as a well-backed $1.80 favourite at Caulfield last time, finding little when called upon in the straight. However, it is worth noting that he raced very keenly outside the leader on a hot tempo before going down by just over two lengths behind Lauberhorn. The former Kiwi still went 8.5 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last-start figure of any runner in this field, and around five lengths below what he produced when winning at his previous start. He was scratched at the barriers last week but is all clear to run and, with a more conservative time of it from barrier 4, he should be hard to beat.
Race 7 No.9 – American Eagle
The three-year-olds tackle the McNeil Stakes and American Eagle can make it two wins from as many starts. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper stepped out at Sandown on debut last month, settling handy before reeling in Judas Tree and going a very healthy 13 lengths faster than standard benchmark. The form out of that race has held up, with the runner-up going on to win at last weekend's Sandown Saturday meeting, while the fourth horse past the post has since claimed a $200,000 Maiden in Sydney. American Eagle draws the inside barrier and, unless the inside is off, should enjoy the run of the race with Mark Zahra in the saddle.
Race 8 No.7- Cosmic Crusader
Cosmic Crusader can continue his unbeaten preparation by taking out the Group 1 Memsie Stakes. The WA galloper has won both starts since arriving in Melbourne and produced a strong performance to claim the PB Lawrence Stakes over the track and trip last time, going 6.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark. This is a significant rise in grade but he holds a fitness advantage with 10 of his 12 rivals resuming and should still have improvement to come third-up. His career-best performance came when going around 15 lengths faster than standard to win the Group 1 Northerly Stakes last December, showing he is capable of producing the figures required at this level. There should be more pressure in the Memsie than he encountered last start, but his Northerly win came in a strongly run race and, with recent Caulfield form and race fitness on his side, he can measure up against some of the country's best weight-for-age horses.
