Caulfield Racing Tips for April 11 – Godolphin filly to motor past them in Race 6
- Jareth favored in Race 1; shows growth since last preparations.
- Xarpo reliable in Race 5; benefits from better draw and recent form.
- Motorsports ready to shine in Race 6; enjoys weight and class advantage.
Caulfield racing takes place on Saturday, April 11, with a program set down for Caulfield.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is part of a massive day of action from around Australia that includes four Group 1 races on Day Two of The Championships at Randwick.
Race 1 No.4- Jareth
We open up with a BenchMark 74 over the 2000m and Jareth will go very close. The Ciaron Maher import is well into his second preparation since coming over and was a Pakenham winner two starts ago over the 1600m before jumping to a BenchMark 84 at Flemington over the 2000m and placing 3rd behind Zakouma. He was just a tad keen in the early stages when sitting on a fast tempo on a Heavy track but did well to stick on in a race where those around him on the speed faded badly. The four-year-old comes into this fourth up and was a 10 length improver on benchmark figures at this stage of his debut Australian prep when runner-up at Caulfield over the 1800m. He will roll forward to sit handy, which is usually the spot to be at Caulfield early on.
Race 5 No.3- Xarpo
Nice race with some handy types in action. Xarpo has been a model of consistency for some time now and opened up her prep with a win at the Heath circuit, coming off subsequent placings at Sandown and Caulfield over the 1400m. She drew very wide in both of those runs and worked hard last time before sticking on well behind Merrigold last weekend. The daughter of The Autumn Sun comes in off the one week back up and has been crunched since the final fields came out. She drops in grade for this and draws much better. Expect her to be in it for a long way.
Race 6 No.8- Motorsports
Motorsports should be hard to beat in Race 6. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper has won two of her four career starts and resumed in harder company than this at the March 21 Caulfield meeting, placing 7th behind Point Barrow. She was specked at a price and worked into it with 400m to go before just peaking on her run. The Godolphin galloper went seven lengths faster than standard benchmark and drops back in grade, while she also drops 5.5kg. Second up at her last prep she improved five lengths on benchmark figures to claim her Maiden at Pakenham before claiming the Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at her next start. She maps to get the gun run from barrier 5 and should be hard to beat.
Race 9 No.9- Vivid Sun
Vivid Sun shapes as a value runner in Race 9. The Moody/Coleman filly resumed from a spell at Caulfield on March 21 and settled last in the field of nine before catching the eye late with the fastest last 200m to place 4th behind Point Barrow, going 8.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced in their careers to date. She should have improvement to come at her second run back and will be suited by what looks to be a solid tempo up in front of her. Worth thought at the double figure odds.
