Race 5: No.1 Guy’s Last Prize
The Michael Sparrow-trained galloper is unbeaten this time in and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can ring-up the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the Prized Icon gelding came off a first-up Maiden win at Moruya when he franked that effort by taking out a BM58 Hcp over 1660m at the same track.
Last out of the gates, he settled ten lengths off the lead before working into the race on the turn, then tracking wide he came down the centre of the track and stormed home to grab first prize, winning by a length on the line.
Jumping from gate six, he meets similar company today and maps to settle back in the field with Coriah Keatings remaining aboard for this assignment.
Both career wins have come on rain affected tracks and with a clear run to the line, the four-year-old can get the job done again in this contest.
Race 6: No.5 Hot Toddy
Doug Gorell saddles-up Hot Toddy here who is in career-best form and looks poised to make it three-straight in this event.
It took the Prized Icon gelding 22 starts but he finally broke through for his maiden win two starts back, then last start, franked that victory by taking out a BM50 over 1300m at Wagga.
On a Heavy 8, carrying 61kgs and Jeff Penza in the saddle, he settled fourth on the fence to the turn, then tracked wide and in the run home, finished too strong for them, winning by more than a length on the line.
Stepping-up to Class 2 company today, he drops 4.5kgs and gets the gun-run from gate one where he maps to be box-seating on settling and after steering him to that maiden win, Cory Parish returns for the riding duties today.
Both career wins have come on heavy tracks so conditions are ideal for him today and with a trouble-free run here, he looks every chance of bringing up the hat-trick in this contest.
Race 7: No.10 Justenuffsplash
The Craig Widdison-trained galloper is two starts into this preparation and looks better suited in this company today.
Last start, the Rich Enuff filly came off a big win at Wagga when she took on city class company and running anti-clockwise, finished down the track in a BM64 over 1200m on the Lakeside circuit at Sandown.
Settling mid-field to the turn, she inclined to hang out form that point on and just didn’t run on, with regular rider Quayde Krogh stating the filly didn’t handle that way of going.
Back to clockwise racing here, she draws the outside gate and maps to cross and settle near the speed with Krogh steering the ship again.
The stable have fitted blinkers for the first time today and already a track and distance winner, she looks set to bounce back in this contest.
