Adam Cusworth picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Moonee Valley on August 10.

Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommend following in the weeks and months ahead?

  • Race 2- Last Druid
  • Race 6- Big Me & Charmed Run
  • Race 7- Point King

Race 2- Last Druid

It was a it of a tough watch for those that backed Last Druid in Race 2. The Godolphin galloper had headed forward at his past couple of starts but began awkwardly over the 1000m before settling towards the tail. His cause wasnt helped by the slow tempo up in front and the Godolphin galloper was miles off them at the 200m before reeling off the fastest late split of the entire meeting to just miss out. Keen on the son of Brazen Beau at his next start.

Race 6- Big Me & Charmed Run

There were a few hard luck stories in Race 6, which went the way of Cavallo Rampante. Charmed Run was coming off a Bendigo BenchMark 64 win and was shuffled back as they approched the 400m then was held up until the 200m before producing the fastest late split to place 5th, beaten just under a length. Big Me began a tad awkwardly then worked hard in the early stages to settle on the speed before just missing out at the business end. Both are ones that can go close at their next start.

Race 7- Point King

Nice win by Point King in Race 7 of the day. The imported galloper was having just his second start in Australia and his first of the spring and attracted late support in the betting to start as an $8.50 chance. The lightly raced six-year-old in the Team Williams colours settled just forward of midfield and cruised around the as they cornered before kicking clear to a three-length win. He looks like one that can measure up in some of the big spring races and it will be interesing to see how he fares over 2400m and beyond.
