Race 2: No.1 The Top Bar
Adam Durrant saddles-up The Top Bar here who is in great touch this time in and looks well placed for back-to-back victories in this event.
Last start, the Sessions gelding was third-up and improved even further to win, here over the 1000m sprint with Clint Johnston-Porter in the saddle.
Travelling three-wide without cover most of the way, he still finished too strong for his rivals, crossing the line 1.5 lengths clear while carrying 60kgs.
He draws gate six here and maps to settle near the speed with Johnston-Porter steering the ship again.
There’s plenty of upside with this youngster and a trouble-free run here should see him very hard to beat in this contest.
Race 3: No.2 Hezangelic
The Team Pearce-trained Hezangelic is fresh off a 21-week spell here and after a successful trial, looks set to produce first-up.
Last campaign, the Universal Ruler gelding had just the one start where he failed to fire, beating just one home in a 1000m Hcp at Ascot with Brad Parnham aboard.
He travelled well to the turn but then gave nothing in the run home.
He returned to work last month showing positive signs when finishing a close-up second in a barrier trial at Lark Hill.
From gate six, he maps to settle just behind the speed as William Pike returns for his third ride on the four-year-old.
Going off his trial effort and seeing the master rider back on board, he is already a winner when first-up and is capable of bouncing back in this contest.
Race 4: No.7 Beach Pad
The Mitchell Pateman-trained Beach Pad is second-up here and showed enough first-up to suggest he can go one better in this event.
Last start, the Bondi gelding was fresh off an 18-week spell when he beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1300m.
With Holly Watson aboard, he drew the outside gate (11) and had 60kgs to carry when he set solid splits in the run to storm home and grab second prize, beaten a length on the line.
He gets all the favours here from gate one while settling back in the field but will have cover all the way.
Watson sticks with him for this assignment as he strips fitter for that first-up effort.
If he can secure clean air in the run home, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 7: No.2 Border Force
The Team Casey-trained Border Force is third-up here and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can play a major role in the outcome of this event.
Last start, the Territories gelding was second-up when he finished mid-field in a No Metro Win Hcp, here over 1200m with Chris Parnham in the saddle.
Settling mid-field early, he made progress through the field and loomed as a threat, but the final 100m found him out where he weakened out of it, finishing three lengths from the winner that day.
Clint Johnston-Porter is the new pilot here where the six-year-old is already a winner when third-up and is a track and distance winner as well.
He draws barrier eight in the 17-strong field and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover.
Fitter for two runs back, he can give this contest a real shake.
