Race 6: No.5 Serinda
The Blake Ryan-trained galloper returns to country racing today and looks well placed to bounce back in this event.
Last start, the Brutal mare came off a good win at Gosford when she stepped-up sharply in grade and in city class company finished unplaced in a BM72 Hcp over 1250m at Canterbury.
Jay Ford settled her second outside the leader to the turn, then in the run home, the early work she did took its toll and she weakened out of it, finishing back in the field.
Returning to an easier assignment today, she draws well in gate four and maps to be parked just behind the speed with Ford steering the ship again.
This is her first look at the Wyong track but with a trouble-free run, the four-year-old looks every chance of returning to the winner’s circle in this contest.
Race 7: No.3 Borderfall
Team Archibald saddle-up Borderfall here who has returned to racing in great fashion and looks set for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Territories gelding resumed after more than six months off the scene and clobbered his rivals when he broke through for his first in by taking out a Maiden Hcp, here over 1100m.
From gate six, Tom Sherry had him leading on settling, then in the run home, ran them off their legs and went on to score by nearly three lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to BM64 company here, he draws gate six and maps to be leading the way again with Sherry retaining the ride for this assignment.
Now a track and distance winner, he should take some catching again in this contest.
Race 8: No.3 Don’s Party
The Team Cave-trained galloper is high-flying after two starts back and looks set to continue the good work in this event.
Last start, the Adelaide gelding came off a first-up maiden win on this track when he then faced his next challenge and stepping-up in distance, did well to beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1500m at Hawkesbury.
From the outside gate, Andrew Calder settled him last of the seven runners to the turn, then sticking to the fence, he was held-up most of the way home before finally seeing daylight in the last 100m where he arrived in time to grab second prize on the line.
Facing similar company today, he draws ideally in gate two and maps to do no early work as he settles back in the field again with Grant Buckley as the new pilot.
Even fitter for those two runs back, he is a winner at the track and with clear running room today, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
