Race 5: No.5 Irama
Nick Keal saddles-up Irama here who is high-flying this time in and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can go back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding rang-up win number two for this campaign when he clobbered his rivals in a BM70 Hcp, here over 1200m.
From the outside gate (10), Gary Geran settled him back in the field and was trapped very wide to the 600m peg where he pushed forward to improve and rounding the turn was still very deep, then in the run home, took over inside the final 200m and simply kept going from there to cross the line two lengths clear in the end with a mighty performance to claim the victory.
Drawn out again here in barrier eight, he maps to settle near mid-field with Geran in the saddle again and already a three-time winner at the track and at his peak here, the five-year-old should take a ton of beating in this contest.
Race 8: No.11 Blazing Harry
The Sunshine Coast-based galloper sees the Toowoomba track for the first time here and on current form, looks set to ring-up a track debut win in this event.
Last start, the Harry Angel gelding made it back-to-back wins in metro company when he took out a BM85 Hcp over 1350m at Doomben.
In impressive fashion, he jumped from barrier eight where Bella Youngberry settled him mid-field and three-deep to the turn where he tracked even wider, then in the run home, never missed a beat and finished right over the top of them to grab the gold medal on the post.
Facing his first run in Listed company here, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to do no early work as he settles mid-field on the fence with Ben Thompson as the new pilot.
In career-best form and coming in on the limit here with just 53kgs on his back, the six-year-old looks set to give this contest a real fright.
Race 9: No,12 Diamond Show
The Team Munce-trained galloper is in career-best form and at the weights here, looks a genuine winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Almanzor mare was shooting for the hat-trick after two-straight wins in metro company and just missed it when finishing a close second behind the promising Livalittle in a BM85 over 2020m at Doomben.
Courtney Bellamy settled her back in the field to the turn before tracking wide then in the run home, was hampered between runners before finally seeing daylight where she ran home strongly to claim the silver medal in the race.
Jumping from gate nine here, she maps to settle back in the field with Cejay Graham taking the reins for this assignment.
Boasting six-straight top-two finishes this preparation and coming in on the limit here with just 52kgs to carry, a clear run to the line suggests the five-year-old will prove hard to hold out in this year’s Cup.
