Sha Tin Racing Tips for September 27 - Bright Mortar is drawn to win, 2nd-up today

Race 5: No.6 Bright Mortar
The Tony Cruz-trained galloper Bright Mortar is second-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can go one better in this event.
Last start, the Starspangledbanner gelding resumed off the season break and impressed when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp here over 1200m.
From gate seven, Angus Chung settled him last of the 14 runners, spotting the leader a dozen lengths to the turn, then in the run home, he held up by a wall of horses and never saw daylight before the 150m pole where he took the split and stormed home to grab that second prize in the race.
Better served at the barriers today, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to do no early work as he settles near mid-field on the fence with Chung in the saddle again.
Already a track and distance winner on the all-weather track, the five-year-old stands out as the testing material in this contest.
Race 7: No.5 Four Stars Align
The Tony Cruz-trained galloper has his first race start on Hong Kong soil today and after recent successful trials, looks a sneaky chance of a podium finish in this event.
Last start, the former Australian gelding was third-up and found the Group 3 competition a little too strong when he finished unplaced in the Gloaming Stakes over 1800m at Rosehill.
Trained by Chris Waller at the time (under the racing name of Regulated Affair), the well-bred Wootton Bassett gelding was stepping-up from the 1200m trip and struggled to run out the trip that day, beaten eight lengths over the line.
Since arriving in Hong Kong, he has trialled four times, winning his last two at on the Conghua track.
Fresh after almost a year off the scene, he jumps from gate nine with Angus Chung as his rider for this assignment.
The all-weather-track will be the main query today but if he can handle the surface, he looks a real chance here and well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 8: No.6 Little Paradise
Jimmy Ting saddles-up Little Paradise here and ticks all the boxes that suggest he is the one to beat in the Group 3 feature race today.
Last start, the Toronado gelding ended a long campaign on a high when he claimed victory in the Group 3 Premier Cup, here over 1400m with Zac Purton aboard.
Settling mid-field early, he trailed the leading group to the turn before coming off heels, then in the run home, he reached the lead inside the final 100m and went on to score comfortably, eased over the line.
Drawn nicely in gate five today, he maps to settle better than mid-field with Purton remaining aboard for the assignment.
The biggest danger is Galaxy Patch who stormed home to finish second behind him last start and despite meeting the topweight 1.5kgs worse today, he is drawn better and is already a three-time winner at the 1400m trip at Sha Tin.
Unbeaten in two previous first-up appearances, the five-year-old still looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 11: No.2 The Red Hare
The Frankie Lor-trained galloper is second-up after the season break and looks well suited to figure in the finish of this event at odds.
Last start, the Sebring Sun gelding resumed after eight weeks in the paddock and wasn’t disgraced when finishing sixth in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1400m.
From gate seven, Matthew Poon settled him better than mid-field but was trapped three-deep without cover to the turn, then tracking even wider, chased hard all the way home and to his credit, stuck with them all the way, beaten just 2.5 lengths on the line after that hard run.
Fitter for that effort, he draws the fence here and maps to be box-seating when they settle with Poon at the helm again.
Already a winner when second-up and a two-time winner at the track and distance, the five-year-old is capable of giving them something to think about here where and a ticket on both totes is highly recommended in this contest.
