Race 3: No. 4 Brayden Star
Has an incredibly long prep last time in that spanned from May 2023 right up until November and included 10 runs.
Was beaten by the barest of margins in the Group 3 Bendigo Cup but he has two wins at 1600m to his name.
Had little luck first up at Echuca when blocked for a run at the 100m but still managed to finish two lengths from the winner.
Will appreciate the drop in weight and has a good second up record.
Race 5: No. 6 Katsu
The Graham Begg trained gelding has a good winning record of five wins from 11 career race starts including a Listed race at this track and distance when beating Najem Suhail by over a length in December.
All five of his wins have been over the 1000m short course and three of those have been first up from a spell.
Looks well placed.
Race 7: No. 2 I Am Unstoppable
The 2023 Coolmore Stud Stakes runner up had an awful time first up in the Black Caviar Lightning against the older horses when he buckled as the gates opened and lost a couple of lengths.
He’s a talented colt who will be looking to add to his value with some more black type and I love that he steps back to his own age group now.
If there is some speed on for him up front, watch for him late.
Race 8: No. 1 Mr Brightside
He’s as honest as the day is long and those are the horses that we love backing!
Pride Of Jenni seems to have his measure at 1600m but this is a whole other kettle of fish and the stable has worked out that he has one 2000m run in him per prep as we saw when he was narrowly defeated in the Cox Plate during the spring.
Flemington isn’t his preferred track but Craig Williams knows this horse better than anyone and you know he’ll be fighting out the finish.
